As most of you know, Lamont (Demond Wilson) with Ron Glass did a TV show back in 1982 called The New Odd Couple based on Neil Simon play. With Ron as neatfreak Felix, and Lamont as sloppy Oscar. It didn't do too well and got canceled only after 18 episodes.
![]() I wondered what would have happened if instead of Ron Glass, the show producer would have teamed up Rollo and Lamont as new odd couple. Rollo and Lamont had a such good chemistry toghether in Sanford&Son, and the same chemistry might have worked for the new odd couple TV show. The show might have lasted longer than 18 episodes.

Demond Wilson and Nathaniel Taylor didn't get along very well and I kind of doubt that they would've agreed to work together again.

And the same probably goes for Lamot and Rollo on S&S. They didn't like each other, but on camera they seem to be best buddies and friend. If there was reluctance to work together again, I am betting that it came from Demon Wilson. To me he seem to have that type of personality. |

That would have been a better idea for a spinoff than Sanford Arms and Aun Esther

This discussion assumes Demond Wilson was willing to reprise the role of Lamont, but he wasn't. Wilson wanted more money than the producers were willing to pay so they moved on. Keep in mind Wilson turned down a second opportunity in 1980 when Redd Foxx agreed to reprise the role of Fred Sanford.

I had a neighbor who resembled Cal, he always reminds me of him.
I liked the Rollo character. At times he seemed very real in that he was acting and saying things in an uninhibited way, while Lamont was unrealistically inhibited. |

I think Ron Glass was better in the show than Demond Wilson was..If they wanted a different Oscar, John Amos, Ernie Hudson, Charles Robinson were around then. James Avery was, too, but just getting started in TV.

I agree. I believe Ron glass is a better actor than Demond Wilson. If they had reversed the roles and gave Demond the "strait man" role of Felix in Odd Couple (instead of Oscar), it might have worked out better. And Ron as role of unorganized Oscar.

I liked this version better than the original.
