Default Mike and Sally’s wedding

What a disappointment episode 1 of season 6 is! I expected to see fun-filled mishaps of Mike and Sally getting ready for and being late for their wedding, Chip misplacing the wedding ring, Robbie wanting to play music either at the wedding or the reception. But no, all we get is the opening scene with Mike and Sally walking out of the church after the wedding and then poof, they drive off into forever land, gone.

The writers really missed a bet on this one. Oh well, I guess they were ready to get rid of Mike, but if so, why wait to have the “wedding” as the first episode of season 6 instead of the last episode of season 5???😡

It was Fedderson's policy. Eventually, Mike has never existed, Ernie was always Steve's son etc./

Give the show a Season 13 and 14 and Dodie's birth will have been the result of Steve and Barbara having marital sex and God Only Knows what the character of Katie's backstory will be given Robbie will have never existed.

I was sort of disappointed too. We get to know Mike and Sally and then poof, they are gone and forgotten.

I guess we are all replaceable.

For those of us who remember the series mainly from syndication, that was our "Episode 1;" in my case I saw only a few b & w still photos in books from the earlier seasons, until the early 1990s.

Meredith and Tim's appearances changed substantially over the next several years, they could have returned with their "hip" new looks. As it turned out, they would not appear together again until the 1977 reunion special.

I have been seeing season 6 and wow the plots are a bit dull. The Grandpa Bubs years were much better. Today saw Steve floundered around in a tin man suit. I plan on hanging until season 8 when the locales changed to California if I can stay that long.

Season 6 has its share of silly episodes and that tin man one sure fit the bill. Season 7, the last one at Desilu, improved somewhat.

The change of studios and sets, a new director (Fred De Cordova, who directed seasons 8 thru 11), and some different secondary writers (George Tibbles was still the head writer) really helped improve things for season 8. Adding the Katie character brought fresh scripts, and this pattern of changes introduced by multi-episode season opener story arcs continued for the rest of the series.

Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And Steve Douglas was an awfully lucky man
That a dog didn't whiz on his leg...

I still kinda watched the silly episode.

It did have one unusual twist. You'd predict a little kid around 4 or 5 answering the door would be scared of a monstrous looking tin man. But the little girl was calm and even helped Steve dial the phone. She called him Mr. Monster or something like that.

Interesting writing.

Hey, LITB had that four year old girl called Puddin who was in a playpen despite being a *bit* too old for one!

Don't give it to Puddin, she'd just waste good weed.
