I always thought Ward would be a good outdoor grilling cook.
He pretty much was in charge of those duties in the Cleaver house. All ingredients basic, nothing extravagant. But very tasty. Thought of Ward's burgers watching fast food reviews on YouTube. Still some reasonably priced. But $10 burgers seems the rage with pop-ups, combos, ghost restaurants. Watching the calories. I'd preorder a turkey burger from Ward. This guy is quite entertaining. https://m.youtube.com/c/theendorsement/videos |

I think he grilled burgers when Larry came over, and later steaks when Miss Landers came over.

After that, Beaver was thinking, Why did I even bother asking him not to do that?

Gee whiz! I don't even think the Rockefellers or the Kennedys wore suits and ties and formal dresses (with white gloves) to an outdoor barbecue.
![]() Found this pretty funny when Sue Randall says she's tingly and the guy says I know what you mean. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WuE2TI...6pa0p&index=93 This YT poster has a LITB playlist that's very good. Lots of great stuff. |

Why don't I find their dining in suits and dresses odd? I don't see them at a barbeque, I see them eating grilled food. Hmm, I must have lived a sheltered life.
I never made the connection I guess of Beaver taking Miss Landers ever so gently by her elbow and escorting her...to a picnic table. I am laughing now. |

Does June say this after Miss Landers shows up? If she called Miss Landers and told her they were barbecuing, then I would say they were all too dressed.
Barbequing is not the most common way of meal prep when having important guests come over for the first time (more important than Larry anyways). Usually, you would sit at the dining room table for your first get-together, and then the clothing they are all wearing is appropriate. I cannot imagine being invited to dinner without the hostess giving more details regarding dining and dress arrangements. The whole thing is getting odder and odder. I wonder if this is meant to be a goofy thing or if it's a true oversight? |

Miss Landers' outfit looks different at the table than when she was inside. Same pearl necklace though.

June tells Miss Landers "We're barbecuing" as she arrives. When June calls the school they break away without hearing the 2 talk. Another example of June's airheadedness. Think, she'd tell ML ahead of time it's a barbecue and dress casual.
Looked on Dailymotion didn't see any difference in ML attire in the episode. The funny classic episode has some areas its unnaturally stiff. Ward no barbecue apron while grilling in a white shirt. No bibs allowed at the table eating with suit, tie, white shirt. Not once do the 4 boys mention how beautiful ML is among themselves. But, for how stiff it is in these areas Sue Randall wears a very sexy, provocative dress to the Cleavers for dinner. Makes me think of a "Candid Camera" bit where an attractive substitute teacher talks and everyone is behaved. Then the teacher walks out for a minute and the kids are hootin' & hollerin' how attactive the substitute is. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7mGlQeSbou0 |

I am really blank on this episode other than:
Bever being freaked out about the way the family will act toward Miss Landers. Beaver freaking out because Miss Landers is wearing too revealing of a dress for dinner with a student. How the boys in the trees were talking about being able to see her toes and wanting their money back. With all that said, do we see Ward at the barbeque actually tending the food? I know there were some ranges even back then that allowed you to grill right on the stove so if that is true... I have to think this was written on purpose to poke fun. |
