"Arnie" with Herschel Bernardi is another rare/forgotten 1970's sitcom and it doesn't have a page here at Sitcoms Online in the 1970's sitcom section. Do you remember Arnie? |

I think it was that YouTube user who requested a Tempertures Rising board on here a few months ago. I just added it recently. His username on here is jimknut.
I added Arnie to the 1970s section. There were a couple threads for it. https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards...lay.php?f=1854 |

Awesome TJ, thanks for adding Arnie to the 1970's forum
. Another rare/forgotten 70's sitcom that I'd like to see released on retail DVD but probably unlikely to happen.

I wish I had known about the uploaded episodes sooner. I would've saved them. Nevertheless, looking forward to scanning this print I have.

Alas, yes, it looks as if the episodes have been taken down. Who did this, I have no idea. I had planned to take them down IF the series had been slated for a blu-ray or DVD release. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be happening. What a pity. I think it was a funny and well-made sitcom.

If 16mm prints exist, why doesn't Sony just commission to have those scanned? They might not look the best, but at least the series will get a chance to recirculate. CBS, I assume, did something similar with The Millionaire. I don't think any previous tape masters existed, but Weigel Broadcasting aired the show on MeTV for the first time in August 2012, so they must've had some leverage. The entire series was sourced from 16mm prints from Viacom and they look alright.

I did a little research into the YouTube situation. All but one of the 20 episodes posted have been blocked due to a copyright claim. Of course, I don't own any rights to the series, but I made no profit on them. My goal was simply to make a funny series from long ago available again. I would have gladly removed them from YouTube if a DVD or blu-ray release had been planned. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe, someday…

I understand that the show is still copyrighted, and Sony is within their right to remove the episodes, but my question is: why? They're not doing anything with the show. No future home video releases and no future broadcasts. The show is literally sitting in a vault. This 16mm print I have of the first episode is going to be cleaned and scanned. I will essentially be doing more work with the show than Sony, and that's just for one episode.
I remember in 2015 seeing nearly every episode of Our Miss Brooks on YouTube. Those were up for a few years, then CBS removed them later that year. A few months later, the show aired for the first time since the 1980s on Decades. Then a subsequent DVD release was announced (only the first season, however). CBS had a reason to remove the show from YouTube besides claiming copyright infringement (again, a valid reason). Sony and Nexstar (Antenna TV) seem to have a great relationship. Why not let Nexstar pay for transfers if possible? Alternatively, the show could be released to Crackle, where a few older Screen Gems shows have been made available. |
