i just watched a profile of James Caan on CBS Sunday Morning and it made me think of a quote from Louie that referred to the actor. "The only one who never came back was James Caan...And I'm still waiting!"
Anyone remember that line? |

I just saw this episode a few weeks ago - the line was so funny. I think it was the episode, " Bobby's Big Break," season 1, episode 18. Bobby is leaving because he had a role on a soap opera and Louie says something about nobody ever leaving the company except for James Caan, 'but he'll be back.' The way Louie said it was very funny.
I've tried to find it on YouTube, it must be somewhere in some edited "Best of Louie" clips, but I haven't found it yet. |

You may laugh, but it never even occurred to me to look for the actual episode, instead of a clip of the scene.

he was born in 1940 but on Wikipedia it looks like he wasn't really famous until the 80s. It's odd that he'd be mentioned on Taxi like that

I don't know much about James Caan, but I do know that he was in "The Godfather" in 1972 - and I have a feeling that movie made him very, very famous before the 80s.

Caan had starred in Brian's Song (1971), which was a hugely popular TV movie and which I think remains one of the most acclaimed TV movies ever.
Caan did a pretty funny guest shot on Newsradio. |

Ah yes, Brian’s Song, aka the only movie society allows men to admit they cried during.
