Question How realistic was the Vermont of Newhart?

It seems so tranquil and pastoral, filled with small, well-kept towns and populated by salt-of-the-earth, civic-minded rural folk who spend their time fishing and sledding when they're not milking cows or having town councils. Are there slums and no-go areas in Vermont?

I did a couple ski trips to Vermont in the early 80s. Both times we stayed at inns similar to the Stratford Inn. Vermont was very scenic. The air was fresh and clean. Everyone was friendly. I felt very safe. We didn't even lock our doors at night. I don't think there was any crime - I never heard of any robberies or shootings. It was almost like being in another country.

Two Daryl's and one Larry. Yes, Newhart is that show.

Grew up by the Champlain Bridge area which is the lower bridge on Lake Champlain to Vermont. The Newhart location Waybury Inn was like an hour drive and we went there once and had a meal.

Like all of sitcoms the small town folks are exaggerated but there are places in Vermont where it almost seems as if time has not stood still but slowed way down. It's a nice little state.

They must've moved the page, it's here now:

https://www.wayburyinn.com/newhart-connection/

I've been there, can't find my pics, but I drove by, took some pics of the outside, then went inside and the lady at the front desk showed me the "Stratford Inn" sign in the lobby, and the "Minuteman Cafe" sign in their dining room. Sometime if I'm ever in that area again, I'd like to try and stay there a night.

I barely touched Vermont, but spent a lot of time in Maine and New Hampshire in the Newhart era. People were strikingly nice, almost suspiciously so until you got used to it.

note #2 is Never referred to as "Darryl" but always "My Other Brother Darryl" so there really is no confusion LOL
