Oh No So my crazy azz brother asked me if he could stay with me for a “while”

So after being fired from his job, cursing my mama out, breaking into my sister’s house, and nearly dying from alcohol poisoning, my drunk ass brother decided to call me tonight to ask if he could stay with me “momentarily” until he “gets back on his feet”, or in other words, he asked if he could stay with me so he can bum off of me now since our mother threw him out of her house. I’m so pissed off now it was a struggle to even post this thread. Then when I told him no, he couldn’t stay here, he started begging me, and that’s when I hung the phone up on his ass. LOL. He could stay in a garbage can for all I care, it’s his life he’s wasting away at this point. It’s just the fact that the first person he decided to turn to was ME and ruined my night with his bullsh*t. It’s so sickening how he can’t take the initiative to hold himself accountable anything and instead he blames other things and other people for his sh*t instead of trying to do something to better himself.

I don't blame you especially since he broke into your sister's house. I guess your sister didn't report him to the police since he's out and about, begging for you to take him in.

No, she didn’t, my sister’s too kind. What I’m really worried about is him sobering up in time for her wedding since he’s supposed to be in it, that’s if he shows up at all, and if he does, he better not start with his sh*t.

I wonder why your drunkard brother broke into your sister's house. Maybe he was looking for money to buy more booze. I hope he doesn't ruin her wedding.

I don’t know myself, to be honest. My mom said he broke into my sister’s house because she had threw him out at the time (wasn’t the first time and wasn’t the last time ), and he was desperately in need of staying somewhere. But my sister has a different side to the story: she said he told her his drunk ass walked to what he thought was “home” late at night from some bar or something and mistook her house for my mom’s so when he used the house key for my mom’s he noticed the door wouldn’t open so he decided to just break in.

I hope he doesn’t ruin the wedding either. It’s gonna be her big day and he’s not needed to start mess and make it HIS big day.

So, was he trying to burglarize the sisters house? Or was he just trying to "come home" after locks had been changed?

Not that it makes any difference in his right to stay, I'm just curious if he was thieving, or just grieving.

Check to see if there is s Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in your vicinity. They have free 6 month residential programs. And you can tell him that while he can't stay with you, that you might be willing to drive him to the center...and that's all you are willing to do for him....take it or leave it, his choice.

They have a formal graduation after 6-8 months of program compliance, and you might offer to help him find an apartment if and only of he graduates successfully.

If nothing else,.. it gives you a 6 month cushion to decide what your next step is gonna be.

My sister says that he told her that he somehow mistook her house for my mom’s and tried to use his house key to open the door and when he realize it didn’t work he decided to break in.

I try to tell him he needs to go into rehab or somewhere that could help change his ways, but he won’t listen to me and I can’t help him if he doesn’t want to help himself. He has a girlfriend he could always crash at, but I’m sure even she doesn’t want to put up with him at this point. In a way, I’m sorry to see my brother like this, but there’s nothing I can do but pray.

My mom told me earlier today that my brother has now taken refuge at his aunt’s house on his dad’s side. It’s okay to live with someone older, nothing wrong with that, but his aunt is 87, the most sweetest and gentle 87 year old you’ll ever meet, and doesn’t drink at all, never has, and now she has someone as crass and destroyed and drunken as my brother on her hands, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s living in the streets once again before the week’s out.

Okay, thanks. So then it wasn't like sister came home and found a broken window and the TV missing?

Not that it's any more forgivable, but breaking in for shelter seems less sinister than breaking in for thievery.

Stand firm in your convictions, and feel free to tell him that his unwillingness to get help is exactly the reason your door is not open to him.

That way every time he might try to finesse you to change your mind, you can use it as an opportunity to push him to rehab.

My take on such matters? The addict/alcoholic doesn't really want "help", they just want to stop suffering the consequences of their actions

I think most of us have a few troubled relatives, and sorry your brother is such a pain in the behind. Does he try to hit you up for money too? We have a few of those in my husband's family.

He hits EVERYONE up in our family for money, even our mom. It’s ridiculous and he needs to get off his ass and find a job so he can hit himself up for money instead of getting drunk and sleeping in bathtubs all day.

Well, my bro’s back in the streets again. I knew he wouldn’t be staying with his aunt long. I just wonder who’s place is he going to crash at now. The dude’s turning 40 next month, he needs to start getting his mind right and find a way to get “saved”, and quick. He’s got no job, no car, no home, and sleeps in washing machines in his spare time.
