Default Help Me Solve THIS mystery....

Hey everyone!

New member here. Hoping you can help me solve this one.

Like most every other Gen-Xer, I was a UM addict! I'd watch it every chance I got, and that theme music still haunts me to this day. As does Robert Stack's voice!

Anyhoo...I remember being absolutely PETRIFIED by an old woman's voice on the show one time...I believe it was an earlier episode...maybe even one of the "specials"?

The voice was so creepy, and almost sinister...When I originally had my "flashback", I thought it was an Amelia Earhart episode, but I scanned through those too and nothing.

I believe the old woman was being interviewed by someone and insisting that she was not the person they thought she was. Maybe it was another show??? Ugh. I just don't remember.

I've spent the better part of the day slow scanning through every episode and I can't seem to find it. I don't want to imagine the chills I'd get if I just binge watched and had it come on when I was here by myself LMAO.

I was watching the "Tyler" segment and wanted to know more about him, which led me to this board and this subsection!

Soooooo...I turn to you UM faithful...perhaps you can help me solve this mystery...

<Cue Creepy Awesome Music>

I don't know or have any clue.. But, you've come to the right place.

I'll wager that someone here will know exactly what you're talking about, even from that vague description.

The only thing I can think of was Irene Heller.. That's the identity that, supposedly, Earhart assumed after returning.

I think that theory was briefly touched on in the Earhart episode, but I don't recall there being any actual audio or anything other than perhaps a picture of Irene on UM. However, she had passed away well before UM.. Though it certainly does seem like something she would have said. My understanding, she was HIGHLY POed about the suspicions that she was Earhart.

Is it possible you're thinking of the In Search Of Amelia Earhart episode? I'm almost certain they actually talk to the lady in NJ that was supposedly her.

They didn't talk to her. They might have aired an old interview with her (Though I don't recall it).. But she died in 1977.

I do seem to recall them touching on the theory. They covered most of the big ones at that time. In fact that was the first time I had ever heard of the Gardner Island theory and the Saipan theory.

And, it was the basis for my hate for TIGHAR.

I looked her up and found an ANGRY interview with her, but that definitely wasn't the one I remember. Maybe there is another interview with her, so I'll keep on looking!

It's funny...the first thing that got me hooked on UM was The Beale Treasure, and I remember that almost verbatim.

This lady, whomever she was must have done a number on me!

Thank you both for the help so far!!!

That was my first thought LOL. Me and a buddy used to watch that interview with that lady. She was PISSED!

I am not Amelia Earhart! I am not a mystery woman!

The In Search Of episode was from 1977, she died in 1982.

It's weird, though, I know I saw that angry interview with her where she's saying the "I'm not a mystery woman" in a show about her. I pulled up the ISO episode on Youtube and don't see it there (I just skimmed it), but I KNOW I saw it on something. And I feel like there was another one, at her home, but I'm not certain about that.

I remember seeing a lot of similar shows back in the early-mid 90s, about disappearances, Bermuda Triangle, etc. Many of them used old interviews and stuff, so it's very possible it was one of those. Generally they were one-off things, if I remember correctly.

Ah, you are correct.. I would have sworn she died in the 70's. Must have mixed the two up.

That whole theory has been pretty well debunked. Again, the best thing that I remember about it was that she was really, really ticked off about the attention that was being given to it, and therefore her.

Either way, she was dead prior to UM's episode. So, they didn't interview her. Again, it's POSSIBLY they aired an archival interview with her, but.. I sure don't remember it. Though I do seem to remember them showing a picture of her.

No, I don't remember them covering that conspiracy theory on any UM segment I ever saw, so I don't think you're wrong, there.

It's bothering me, too, because I feel like I saw it, somewhere.

I DEFINITELY watched something in the 90s that talked about that, but I can't remember what it was.

Bumping this, because I just got the In Search Of DVD set. They do show the press interview with her (I am NOT a mystery woman) in the Amelia Earhart segment of ISO. So that must be where I saw it. I feel like I remember seeing another one, but I may not have. The ISO episode is on Youtube, so (if you haven't already) maybe check it out and see if that's what you're remembering? Good luck!

I just had a very brief look on YouTube at the In Search Of episode about Amelia Earhart and couldn't see no angry woman.

It didn't help I unknowingly had the volume on my computer turned up high and just about went through the ceiling when that opening Funky 70's music started!!

Dat music doe

They were very short clips of the interview. It's right around 11:20 or so. They're talking to the guy who spread the conspiracy theory, then cut to her, then back to the guy, then back to her, then back to the guy. It's a roller coaster

They definitely show the interview with the angry woman proclaiming that she is not a mystery woman in the 1977 Amelia Earhart episode of In Search of that's on YouTube.
