Default Do you think Mrs. Garrett's departure hurt the show?

I always had a feeling something was missing after her departure. I know the show continued for six more seasons and I'm glad she left for FOL but things were slightly different after 1979. What do you think?

I don't think it hurt the show, but I agree there was something missing and it didn't feel the same after she left.

I think it hurt DS. Each successive housekeeper wasn't quite as good as her predecessor. The show ranked in Nielsen's top 30 for the first three seasons, but viewership dwindled in the later years. They tried adding new characters, but people missed the original cast.

i don't think it was as good without her. she had such a distinct personality. she was more than a housekeeper. she was like a mother to the boys. she was hilarious too

Yeah, she definitely was a big part of what had made DS work as a series.

Definitely. She added a lot to the show. Adelaide (I guess that spelling is right) and Pearl were OK, but just OK.

Yeah, they were fine, but they were no Mrs. Garrett.

The show's ratings stayed high several seasons after Mrs. Garrett left.

I wouldn't say it really "hurt" it. After all, Adelaide was wonderful! Pearl was good, but she didn't become as "family" as Adelaide and especially Mrs. Garrett did.

For me it was just a seamless transition, all the housekeepers did their part and that was it.

No. The show was still good after she left.
