Default Wally & The Beaver Sell Fords [Leave It To Beaver & 1960 Fords]

Wally & The Beaver Sell Fords [Leave It To Beaver & 1960 Fords]

in color !

from YT comments

the ad was done on Colonial Street at Universal Studios with the Munsters house right behind them

Fun Fact: In the first season of LTB, the Cleavers owned a White 1957 Ford, the same exact car Janet Leigh drove in Pycho.

In “The New Leave it to Beaver” in the 80s, Wally drove an old T-Bird like that.

My ex had a 69 GTO. His brother used to have a 66 GTO.

I didn't know Ford sponsored LITB. Interesting also that the commercial is in color.

It's possible, but normally cast commercials, with the actors appearing in their roles, were normally within the show.

and it's way to long for TV time wise - more like something that would be shown in theater ?

I put an an answer in another thread, that if this commercial ran in the show, it would account for why some episodes in season 3 ran short by a minute or more.

But the fact that it's in color is odd, too. Makes the theater idea seem more likely.

Was it normal to use TV actors to sell to moviegoers?

No I don't think so--so much for that. Nor was the length of that ad normal.

I'll have to see what auto Ward was driving in season 3 (1959-1960). I know the Cleavers had Fords at the first house. The ad is mentioning 1960 Fords.

I mentioned before the ad is in color. Looking at it again it looks like it might be colorized.

I just checked it again. Beaver's hat is the wrong color--it's well known it was a green cap--in the ad it's black or gray.

The Falcon looked a lot like my Grandpa's Rambler. I think the Dodge Dart had a similar model. Grocery Getters is what I heard those types of cars called.

I guess they were the precursor to the smaller cars yet to come.

Cars back then were built to last. In one episode of Father Knows Best, Bud did a forward roll on the hood of his car.

No way you could do that with today's cars.

His cap actually is a muted green in the ad, it's just hard to tell...this is a cheap color film process that was typical of industrial/promotional films of the era.
