I think she called Rob to tell him she was going home and Rob talked her out of it because IIRC his mom was supposed to be home at around 11:30 that night. Angie was the one who drove Rob to his mother's house after the BBQ. Rob, presumably, did not have his own vehicle that night. Or else he wouldn't have needed Angie to drive him the 20 minutes to his mom's house in Clinton.

But how did she think Rob was supposed to get home? I mean, it's possible, there could be multiple explanations. I'm just saying that if they lived apart, it would make more sense if she called him from the phone booth. Now I'm left wondering why a pregnant woman would want to wait outside in the cold and darkness instead of a warm house only a few minutes away.

If Rob did it, he’s a criminal genius, because:

-no trace of Angela has ever been found in over 3 decades, despite him being right under the noses of the police, in-laws, the community, etc.
-he passed all of his polygraphs
-he came up with a detailed cover story which is backed up by evidence (including a damaged car)
-police could not find any inconsistencies in his story

Those are all incredibly difficult to do if your story is made up. He didn’t do it

I legitimately get the initial skepticism people have with Rob's story, because it seems like it's right out of a movie. He literally was right down the road from his fiancee while she was abducted. It's incredible to believe. But when you consider the totality of everything involved, it's just impossible for him to have done it, IMO. He was a senior in high school too. Not some criminal mastermind.

He doesn't have to be a genius. Inept police department, or simply lucky. I personally don't think they went after Rob that hard because Angie's mother was sticking up for him

-there's a reason polygraph tests aren't admissible in court; they're bogus and grossly inaccurate. a decent police department wouldn't rely on one

-the only evidence that is backed up in Rob's story is the transmission, nothing else. they have phone records which showed that there was a connection between Rob's mother house and the payphone. unfortunately they don't even have a record of the time that they talked

-rob's story is filled with inconsistencies and "conveniences", this is just an extremely inept police department. How many times have they had "new information" over the years that led to nothing? They "cleared" Rob because of a polygraph test, not actual evidence, let's remember that.

This wasn't "extremely hard to do", Rob was just lucky that he was the only one who "saw" or "heard" anything. No one else was there so we don't have any other accounts to hear about. He was just lucky. That's all.

A lot of assumptions there.

He could have been lucky. He could have dumped and body and left no trace of it. He could have fooled the polygraphs. He could have fooled the cops and Angela's family with his story. He could have had help dumping the body. The police could have been corrupt or inept.

All of those things are possible, and one of those things on its own is not that hard to believe. The reason the "Rob did it" theory falls apart on closer inspection is because you have to take a leap of faith and believe that ALL of those things happened.

Actually, no. It takes a greater leap of faith to believe that Rob is innocent and believe ALL of the things he said happened.

So if you believe Rob is innocent then you'd have to believe that:

-Angie stood around on the phone in a dark parking lot by herself pregnant, after she expressed she was scared of a weird truck that kept circling around

-Angie conveniently described the man and his truck to Rob on the phone in such great detail, but neither was ever found

-Rob left his house right in the nick of time to conveniently drive right by the abductor and Angie

-Angie conveniently shouted Rob's name as he rode by the abductor, who conveniently had his window rolled down for Angie to do so

-Rob's transmission conveniently breaks down as he's chasing the perp

But there were two witnesses that came forward having seen the suspicious truck and man that night. And I thought I read somewhere there were pep0ole who lived in the houses along the chase route that heard and/or saw the chase. I may be wrong on that one but even the UM site indicates one of the reasons the police did not list Rob as a person on interest is the two witnesses who came forward.
Count me as a "Rob didn't do it " fan club member. I just don't see how he had the time to kill her and dispose of her so well in the what 15 mins he had that there is still no trace all these years later.
And yes Freakbook he probably did know the area very well. Probably even knew good hiding places if needed but the time is what i cannot get past.

One would think that if these witnesses that also saw the dirty guy in the green pickup truck were lying in an effort to help Rob that they would have also said that they witnessed the chase through the town. They didn't do that though. And if these witnesses saw the truck there earlier that day, that still doesn't mean this guy didn't return later that night. Because if the mistaken identity theory is correct, he could have been driving around Clinton looking for the other Angela and using the phone booth to communicate to accomplices.
