Dear Family Broadcasting Corporation,
I have a proposal for FeTV: to make a deal with Sony Pictures Domestic Television Distribution for FeTV to become the shared TV home (with Antenna TV) of the hit '50s sitcom "Dennis The Menace," showcasing all 146 half-hour episodes of the hit 1959-1963 sitcom "Dennis The Menace" 100% Complete, 100% Uncut, AND 100% Unedited, just the way they originally aired on the CBS Television Network for 4 full seasons. Created by Hank Ketcham, "Dennis The Menace" originally aired on CBS from October 4, 1959 - July 7, 1963; the series was based on Hank's Comic Book series and adapted for Television by future "Bewitched" creator Sol Saks. Beating out 500 other children, 7-year-old Jay Waverly North, Jr. (born on August 3, 1951 in Los Angeles, California) was cast as Dennis "The Menace" Mitchell, a 5-and-a-half-year-old Boy who lived at 627 Elm Street in Hillsdale, Kansas with his parents: dad Henry (Herb Anderson), an Engineer; and mom Alice (Gloria Henry), a Typical American '50s Sitcom Housewife. Living next door was good ole Mr. George Wilson (Joe Kearns) and wife Martha (Sylvia Field), whom Dennis considered his Best Friend; Mr. Wilson was Retired and had to chronically get his "nerve medicine" being near Dennis. Tragically, on February 17, 1962, days after his 55th Birthday, Joe Kearns died; according to Gloria Henry via a 2011 interview given on the Season 1 DVD of "Dennis The Menace," Joe thought it was a great idea to try to lose weight eating and drinking nothing but Metrecal Products, but instead he had a Massive Stroke and died in his Los Angeles home built from a Pipe Organ. Ironically, Joe had just completed filming on "Dennis's" 100th Episode, with Production being Temporarily Shut Down after Joe's death, resuming with an episode featuring Pro Baseball Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax as Himself. 3 shows later, Gale Gordon (real name: Charles Aldrich, Jr.) joined the cast as Mr. Wilson's brother, John, a Writer by Trade who with his own wife, Eloise (Sara Seegar), moved into George's house after he and Martha moved away. By this time, however, despite still successful ratings, Jay North was 11 years old and deemed "too old" to continue as "Dennis The Menace," leaving CBS to cancel the show with its Final Original Episode airing in July 1963. In the years since, reruns have continued to Flourish--first on Saturday mornings on NBC from 1963-1965 and later on Nickelodeon from July 1, 1985 - October 27, 1994 (initially via Nick at Nite before Nickelodeon moved it to its Daytime Schedule) as well as TV Land from May 2002 - September 2003. As of 2011, "Dennis The Menace" can be seen on Digital OTA Antenna TV. With FeTV's "Dennis The Menace" Acquisition, I'm suggsting that it air weekday afternoons at 3 P.M. ET with 2 back-to-back episodes, replacing the 2nd hour of the '50s Western "Rawhide," starting on September 5, 2022. Sincerely, Steve Arino |
