If I were TJ I would do these things

1) Give staff full privlidges on every base So If Jimmy sees spam posted for example on the music base he can delete it..

2) Unblock HTTP traffic - No reason to block http on a site like this. I know several sites that dont block http and they are fine...

3) Put the site back on the server it was on before being put here, its aweful!! (Slow,Timeouts, etc)

I love this place,I think we all do

THANK YOU TJ!!!!

It's not websites which suffer when they use http; it's the users whose passwords are compromised. Asking why this site doesn't use http is like asking why people lock their doors at night; it's naive. You lock your doors to prevent theft.

The https:// protocol was introduced for Netscape Navigator in 1994. If your browser has a hard time using https, you need to ditch it. Security breaches happen frequently, and the fewer security precautions you take, the more likely your information will be stolen. The last thing TJ should do is make this site less secure for users.

I'd be glad a few of these 2002 people left the scene.

Right off the top of my head, I'd say that more bandwidth would be a big help, I've noticed that this site can be dreadfully slow at times when I've got 2 or 3 other sites that are responding normally, so it's doubtful the problem is at my end.

Then, with that accomplished, I'd say that raising the size limitation for avatars, at least up to 500K should be done. 100K was a lot years ago, but now it's nothing.

And, of course that additional bandwidth will cost TJ money, so I don't see "pay to play" as being out of the question, so long as it is assessed upon all members uniformly. Maybe something like your first 100 posts every month are free, but thereafter you have to prepay something like 15 cents per post? (Might help clear up another problem)

I agree with you Jim about the size limitation of the avatars, which was my first thought. But other than that this site is perfect as far as I'm concerned. Great job TJ!

My word, no. Having to pay for posts is a terrible idea. And I am against raising the size limit for avatars as well. That would just cause threads to load even slower, we don't need a bunch of giant avatars here.

I think that these are all wonderful ideas. The more that TJ can monetize this site, the longer it can remain operational. Monetization would mean updating this site, using a safer server, better looking avatars, and possibly curtailing some members who seem to have diarrhea of the keyboard.

He should go for it!

Just to elaborate a bit. Having more bandwidth would allow larger avatars, as well as attachments, to load much faster. I wouldn't be recommending the larger image cap size without the added bandwidth to support it.

Additionally, with web sourced graphics, the image only downloads (over the wire) once per session, and thereafter runs from your local cache. So it's not like every avatar would have to squeeze through the pipe everytime you open a new thread.

And, I'm not saying the dimensional size of the images need to increase, I feel the current 150 X 150 pixels is adequate. the size limitation that I find constraining is the 100K file size limitation.

And, the fee structure that I propose to help TJ pay for the added capacity, is peanuts.

I mentioned a 100 post per month "free" allotment, with 15 cents per post for any amount over that. So, if someone posts 2000 posts per year, which IMO is a lot, that would put them only 800 posts above their free allowance.

800 x .15 = $120 for the year, divided into 12 months, is ONLY $10/month. A relative entertainment bargain considering you'll be getting all my posts included.

And think about it from the other aspect, if some of these "freewheeling" keyboard mashers had a cost associated with their contributions,... perhaps they'd be more inclined to think first, before posting, and all the "You suck! ....oh yeah? WELL YOU SUCK MORE!!!" posts might go away entirely...

I believe there is true value in that last paragraph alone.

The forum is fine, and the avatars don't need to be made larger, WHY. So many just need to complain. And yes I'd like to see a health and wellness area but that won't happen as I've asked a long while ago. And GJ's new avatar, I guess that's what it is, is annoying.
