Default Mr. Drummond spanked young Kimberly for leaving him buried in the sand?

Wasn't this an accident? She had buried him up to his neck at the beach and then forgot about him and left him there for a long time. He got severely sun-burned. Arnold commented that Mr. Drummond's face must have been really red. Then Kimberly said, "Not as red as my behind was". He must have spanked her pretty good. But why for an accident?

It was the episode where Mr. Drummond lost his memory after being in the car accident. He has amnesia and can't remember anything. They were celebrating his 50th birthday. When he is in the hospital, the kids are worried and are talking about him. Kimberly tells Willis and Arnold about her burying Mr. Drummond in the sand on the beach and forgot about him and left him buried up to his neck all day. Kimberly says that her butt was redder than Mr. Drummond's face. So, this implies that he spanked her.

It's a 2-part episode from Season 3 called "The Accident".

Of course she could have been joking. They could have put in two more lines to settle it:

Arnold: Dad really hit you?
Kimberly: No, he never did, but he grounded me for two weeks!

Mr. Drummond believed in spanking. He threatened it a few times with Arnold, and even Willis in the early years. I can see him spanking Kimberly when she was younger. She even comments about the sand incident, "He's only been really mad at me once in my life. This was when I was 9 years old". If he thought that she intentionally left him buried all day, then maybe that's why he spanked her. The writers didn't make it too clear, but I took it to mean that she got a spanking. Sounds like it was her only spanking from her dad.

Mr Drummond was pretty tall. Did he and Kimberly dig a hole that deep with the expectation that a 9 year old girl could dig him back out alone? Most of the sand burials at the beach really don’t see the person losing mobility.

Maybe Kimberly was supposed to get someone to help her, but she just kept swimming and didn't do it. I'm sure there was more to the story. There was a reason she got spanked. Lol

She didn't seem like she was joking.

Her memory of it was part of an episode. She remembers this in the episode where Mr. Drummond had the accident and had amnesia. This event is pretty significant because he recalls it when his memory starts to come back.
