Sat. 1/1/2022 Bugs Bunny and Friends
SCENT-IMENTAL OVER YOU, YOU WERE NEVER DUCKIER, TOM THUMB IN TROUBLE, BUNKER HILL BUNNY, AIN'T WE GOT FUN, ELMER'S PET RABBIT Bunker Hill Bunny (Bugs, Yosemite Sam - 1950 - Freleng) Scent-imental Over You (Pepe Le Pew - 1947 - Jones) Ain't We Got Fun (1937 - Avery) -- MeTV debut You Were Never Duckier (Daffy, Henery Hawk - 1948 - Jones) -- Tedd Pierce does this story for Jones, a bit of a different script for a Daffy cartoon. Has been restored from its Blue Ribbon form. Tom Thumb in Trouble (1940 - Jones) -- first time on MeTV Elmer's Pet Rabbit (Bugs, Elmer Fudd - 1941 - Jones) -- the cartoon released after A Wild Hare. Still early--Warners didn't know they had a "star" yet |

Other than Bugs I didn't even get into cartoons that absolutely won't be shown on TV. Wartime cartoons like The Ducktators and Tokio Jokio. Later ones that I can think of are Coal Black..., Tin Pan Alley Cats, Wagon Heels, Tom Tom Tomcat, and the three Inki cartoons. Of course there are others.
I refuse to give up on the 50s Speedys. |

The Sunday night show also showed "Believe it or Else", restored from Blue Ribbon reissue to original, with title card and original rings. Unknown if restored without edits, but based on the above, if so, it probably included that advisory card, too.
I think they went overboard on Ain't That Ducky--it ain't that bad. I wish I got that Sunday night show! |

(finds certain parts of the "disclaimer" in the image attached to this message to had been unfair, negative, and unnecessary (" 'It may depict some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that were commonplace in American society.' "; " 'These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today.' "; " ', because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed.' "))

Here is an entry I just made on the edited cartoons list on the other thread --
----- Hare Ribbin' -- 7:18 - 7:28 Bugs hands the dog a pistol (after he wishes he was dead) and he shoots himself (however, the dog stops the iris-out and says, This shouldn't even happen to a dog)--this ending has been routinely edited on TV. MeTV shows the full cartoon -- unedited time 7:41. Per the Fandom site, an alternate director's cut ending also exists--Bugs obliges and kills the dog. That ending didn't cut it for general audiences in 1944, so it was changed. The alternate ending can be found on Golden Collection DVD set 5 as a special feature. ----- I saw this on Bugs and Friends Sat. 6/26 and it was unedited, but it re-aired on Toon in With Me on 10/19. I wonder if it was was edited on 10/19 for the weekday show. Anyone know? |
