When the New Year arrives in January, CHCH TV will be making a few changes to its retro lineup, which has remained mostly untouched since the start of October. It has also been a very solid group, with new additions like "Andy Griffith", "My Three Sons", and "Make Room For Daddy" as well as the return of old favorites "Happy Days" and "I Love Lucy" making for a strong lineup overall.
But for now, for what will hopefully be a short time, it's about to get a lot weaker! On Monday, December 6th, two weeks from today, "Green Acres" will leave the morning lineup in a move that I am anticipating with great sadness. It's one of my favorites and simply one of the funniest series that you will find anywhere at any time. To take over the 11:00 am spot, "The Andy Griffith Show" will move there from its current time of 3 pm, ironically right after "Matlock", which will give you 90 minutes of Andy Griffith to start off the day! It will be followed by "I Love Lucy" at 11:30. This takes me back very fondly to when I first discovered both series many years ago when they were featured on CKVR TV in the early 1990s, except that their times were reversed. Lucy was on at 11 am and Andy followed at 11:30. It might take me a few weeks to get used to the new times but it will be worth it. What I'm not looking forward to is Andy's replacement in the 3 pm afternoon time slot. CHCH has foolishly decided to bring back "Maude" for the winter which is a great argument for going outdoors! As for any further changes ahead, "The Odd Couple" is currently in its final season so it will be gone before the year ends. "Matlock", "Hawaii 5-0", "Family Ties", and "Who's The Boss?" each have 2 seasons to go before they leave, which should happen either in late January or early February. "The Danny Thomas Show" is just starting Season 6 and I'm not sure whether it will stop after that or continue on till the end which I'm hoping will happen since I really enjoy watching it. As always, I will keep you informed. Keep it here on this page for further details. |

The return of Maude is pretty surprising. Did it do well in ratings? I didn't hate it, and it was interesting to see Bea Arthur with Rue McClanahan in a different sort of role.
Seeing Maude come back just makes me conclude that shows like Benson and Designing Women will also be coming back once those other shows end their run, but you can never tell with CHCH. Sometimes they do add new shows when you least expect them. I was expecting and hoping for Bewitched, since it's been a while since it aired, and it seems CHCH always brings that show back...plus I think it used to air before or after I Love Lucy, a while ago. The Andy Griffith Show moving to air after Matlock makes sense. Next show to end will be The Odd Couple, in mid December. Hopefully something good will be taking it's place. |

You are right. Something good will indeed be taking its place! It will be "Laverne and Shirley" starting two weeks from today on Tuesday December 21 at 4:00 pm. I would have liked it better at 5 just before "Happy Days" which seems like a natural fit but this is fine with me. Ironically, "Laverne and Shirley" is where Penny Marshall ended up when "The Odd Couple" finished filming in 1975 so the transition from one series to the other makes sense here. I would expect this to be the last lineup change to happen before 2022 arrives. I will keep you posted as always to see what may be coming next. The next big retro event will be the annual "retro little Christmas" schedule which takes place every Dec. 24 and 25. This year, Christmas Day falls on a Saturday so the scheduling will be a little trickier than usual. I will have the full lineup when it comes out! |

They have added a good number of “new” shows recently. As far as I see it, they should just bring back some they played before.
It would be good to see Bob Newhart show and Newhart again. |
