Default Molly talks the Facts of Life with Mayim Bialik.

Molly talks about her Facts of Life career in a new interview with fellow Facts of Life alum Mayim Bialik.

She does talk more about her one and only Season 2 appearance on FOL than she ever did before. This is during the early part of the interview.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euh5bPQaLzI&t=90s

A couple of tidbits.
  • Molly went to the Warren Littlefield School of Mathematics.
  • Molly said that if her mother could do it over again, Molly wouldn't have been a child actor.

Very cool that she has opened up once more about the pain and humiliation she felt; glad she's talking about it.

And yes, she went a little Warren Littlefieldy with the numbers.

She always adds a little more. This time she said that she thought she did something wrong that got her fired. Evidently they didn't do a good job at communicating that with her and her parents. I still think they should have paired her up with at least one of the older Lost Girls for support rather than leave a 12 year old alone paired up with an almost 20 year old stranger she never met before (Margo).

I honestly doubt there was much communication at all. Felice got a call, and the call was, "Felice, Julie, Julie Anne, and Molly aren't going to be on the show anymore."

Producers in 1980 were never going to do that. These were men who thought it was perfectly okay for a 25-year-old man to kiss a 14-year-old girl romantically because it was acting. For whatever reason, Hollywood traditionally cast men in roles for which they are inappropriate, Luke Perry being the most notorious (he was cast as a high school sophomore at age 25). Casting decisions were based on the script. The script for "The New Girl" only called for Molly, so they weren't going to add Sue Ann or Nancy to the scene, no matter how Molly felt. Attitudes were completely different. There was no sensitivity, no thought paid to how an actress might feel. Decisions were coming from a network run by men who couldn't count to seven.

OH WOW!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU for posting 80sDude!!!

I want to send you and Mayim thank you cards!!

WOW

YET ANOTHER
Molly interview talking about The Facts of Life. !!!!

At this rate, by 2033 we'll have every Facts memory of hers documented!

And yeah, sure, she was off a bit on the number of girls, but she was closer than W*rr*n!

And really, when you count Nina, that's 8, and "Heather", that's 9.

It's always such a thrill to hear Molly say the characters' names!

How interesting to hear that Molly's mom wouldn't have had Molly be a child actor if she knew then what she knew now.

Poor Molly! She thought she did something wrong and wasn't told!

But how fantastic to hear her talking about the show more!!! What an early Xmas present for this board!!!!!

Maybe Molly was thinking of the Lost Lost Girls (Jennifer and Laura) of being part of the show. Molly usually has a photographic memory and can recall details from The Tempest and the space movie. Maybe the Fact of Life was too painful for her to recall everything.

Yeah, the only way there would be nine is if they included Jennifer and Laura.... or Tumpy and Emily. But they were never regulars, or even semi-regulars.

She does have a good memory, and is kind of the anti-Felice.

I think she "pulled a Warren" and was thinking of the main cast and just got off by a couple of numbers. After all, this was 40 years ago, she remembers the group of them, and she apparently hasn't tried to think much about it in her adult life.

She sure is---in more ways than one!

"Pulled a Warren" is a hilarious turn of phrase, but I think what she did should be called a "Reverse Warren".

Molly and Felice are also very opinionated on social media. But they don't agree on much. Perhaps that is why Felice had no memories of Molly.

But Felice also has no memories of Julie Pie, and they would likely agree on some politics.

How does Molly know Mayim dodged a bullet with the FOL spinoff? There's no telling what that spinoff could have been like if NBC had picked it up. Mayim would have found success with it just like she did with Blossom. It seems like Molly is still bitter after 40 years which is pathetic. She really needs to let it go and move on from her experience with FOL. It's a shame they didn't use her one appearance in season 2 for the suicide episode. That would have been a perfect ending to that crappy character. Even though the other season 1 girls aren't my favorite, I'm glad they are more mature than Molly and appreciate their time on the show instead of living in a toxic energy about their experience.

I agree. I don't understand why Molly is still bitter. After all, she has had a succesful film career after Facts. Don't get me wrong, for a teenage girl it must have been a shock but not after nearly 45 years . I have always appreciated the professionalism of the other Lost Girls, particularly Julie Piekarski, who have always spoked well of the show, even though they were unceremoniously dropped. If you think, Julie Pie. should have been the most disappointed girl about her firing, since her character did get a lot of attention in season 1.

No reason for Molly to still be bitter. Even today she has more work than any of the other 7 main girls.
