Default OCD Issues, Let's if we can get a discussion

going. On another group this is a thread but the forum is very very slow and inactive so I thought I'd post it here and yes I know it's not a sitcom subject.

Anyway my mom was relaxed and cool when I was growing up. Kept a clean house but when someone came in to visit, if they wanted to lay down on the couch, she would say go ahead. Or if they wanted to put their feet on coffee table, she was ok there too.

Now an aunt was always cleaning her house, that seemed to be her greatest pleasure, a clean spotless house.

I am the same with any of my friends family who come to visit me.

I may have had a little OCD in my 40's and 50's, but none to speak of now. A clean apt but I don't worry about crossing T's and dotting I's......if you get what I mean. And even spell words wrong and don't fret about that.

Now a dear couple in my life were so OCD that they drove each other crazy. He controlled her every move....and I mean every. I dreaded going to their house as I felt like I had to walk on eggs and yet I had good reasons to go there. So grinned and bore it. They are no longer married...

And yes I have some pretty strong convictions but never will say "you should do this or you should do that".....People will do what they will do.

I can always go to the good ole AA mantra: Progress Not Perfection.

Stories anyone else.

I have this thing with things being organized. Also I have to have labels on products facing me, not turned to the backside. For me things have to be put where I think they belong. I remember being at the Post Office window and talking to the clerk. I caught myself organizing the paper clips, pens and rubber bands. It drives me crazy to see a messy desk, I want to badly to clean it up. I can't stand bird poop on my car, I clean it up as soon as I can. Sometimes when I take a walk I bring a bag with me to pick up trash. I can't stand litter. I also have delete messages or phone numbers on my phone right away. I park in the same parking space everyday. It annoys me when someone else parked there. It's just little, silly things.

Last week there was a liberal waiting at the bus stop in front of my house, and they allowed several buses to pass without getting on. It grew quite annoying. As it turned out, they were waiting on someone to arrive. Who do these people think they are?

I have a dear gf like this, She labels everything, so organized, and I've commented but let it go. She's retired and has 24/7 and is busy busy busy.....probably overdoing as I see it. She has no children and no partner so it's just her. When she comes to my place, she starts to organize, and often I like what she is doing but often I don't.

I use hand sanitizers often and wash my hands often. My Family USED to look at me as if I were a Weirdo for frequently using hand sanitizers and washing my hands often, let's just say THEY also recently got into my "Weirdo," habit of frequent using hand sanitizers and washing hands often once Covid hit.

On a side note, I'm surprised this Topic didn't become a HUGE hit by now. It should have been BIG.

I suspect for most people, they don't see their own idiosyncrasies as unusual or abnormal. Likely tend to blame the rest of the world for not being on-board with their "right" way to do things.

I have Never bought or used a hand sanitizer. We need some good ole germies. And I don't have any or many to speak of anyway. And keep hands away from the mouth and face anyway.

I heard of people and I know a few who cleaned down their cans, boxes etc of groceries from the market thru this covid crap. No way for this gal.

Cleaning groceries is also too over the top for me. I just use hand sanitizer and wash my hands and I'm good.

So many were in so much fear and still are from this Virus and they were frozen into submission.

Janice on a side note, are your hands rough and dry? The sanitizers take the oils out of our skin. My friend who is pretty OCD has the driest hands.

Thank God in 2021 we are starting to recover from the truly horrendous 2020. A feel good commercial said something like,"2020 was the year we were scared. 2021 is the year we get our lives back."

Janice 2021 is almost behind us and the fear and manipulation continues. I've talked about this in Politics and on other forums, so I don't know who put out the commercial.

The commercial staff were most likely thinking of the fact the Riots are over, the Vaccines are readily available, Events are back, eating in at Restaurants is back, ask mandates are being dropped, MOST People got their jobs back, Places in general are back, school is back in real world for the most part. 2021 is a REALLY good year compared to the crap year that was 2020(I seriously thought 2020 was going to be a GOOD year when January 2020 happened) and almost feels like 2019 again.

Still too many restrictions on the people. Yes, things are better this year but as I said not the freedom most of us are accustomed to in the U.S.

Being over sanitized is not really good for your immune system. I don't use any sanitize gel. I just wash my hands.

But sanitizers kill germs.
