"The Expanse's" Final Season Launches Dec. 2021
"The Expanse" Renewed for Season 2 at Syfy
by Nellie Andreeva December 31, 2015 Four episodes into its freshman run, Syfy’s space drama series "The Expanse" has been renewed for a second season. The network has increased the order — from 10 episodes in Season 1 to 13 in Season 2, which will air in early 2017. "The Expanse" marked the first TV series from Alcon Television Group, which finances and produces it. Because of the long lead time and extensive special effects required, Alcon had commissioned scripts and had started prep work on Season 2 even before the series’ November debut. “The Expanse is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy’s promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment,” said Dave Howe, President, Syfy and Chiller. "The Expanse" got off to a strong multi-platform start. The premiere episode, made available on VOD, TV Everywhere and digital platforms on November 23, three weeks ahead of its linear debut on the network, has been sampled by 4.5 million viewers. The series’ linear viewership has been OK, not great — 1.6 million Live+3 viewers on average for the first three episodes. For comparison, Syfy drama "Defiance" averaged almost 2 million viewers (L3) for its most recent third season before being canceled. Set 200 years in the future, "The Expanse", based on the bestselling book series, follows the case of a missing young woman that brings a hardened detective (Thomas Jane) and a rogue ship’s captain (Steven Strait) together in a race across the solar system that will expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. http://deadline.com/2015/12/the-expa...fy-1201674459/ |

Good god, I wanted to love this show... It is soooo boring! They have a wonderful cast, great special effects, a good concept but the writing and directing are ponderous.

I have to agree with Shotzette, I wanted to like the show but it's pretty boring. And at least for me except for Holden I don't like any of the characters. Too cynical and dystopian for my liking.

"The Expanse" Renewed for Season 3 at Syfy
by Malcolm Venable March 16, 2017 "The Expanse", which returned to Syfy in January greeted by high anticipation after a well-received first season, has been renewed for a third season, the network announced Thursday. It will return for 13 episodes in 2018. "The Expanse is a gorgeous, thrilling, emotional series that has quite simply raised the bar for science fiction on television," said Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, in a statement. "We, along with the fans, are looking forward to continuing the journey with our partners at Alcon Television Group and the series' brilliant cast and crew." http://www.tvguide.com/news/the-expa...season-3-syfy/ |

"The Expanse" To End on Syfy with Season 3, Will Be Shopped Elsewhere by Alcon
by Nellie Andreeva May 10, 2018 The current third season of "The Expanse" will be the space drama’s last one on Syfy. The cable network has decided not to renew the show for a fourth season, with the last episode slated to air in early July. Alcon Television Group, which fully finances and produces the critically praised series, plans to shop it to other buyers. “The Expanse transported us across the solar system for three brilliant seasons of television,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Everyone at Syfy is a massive fan of the series, and this was an incredibly difficult decision. We want to sincerely thank The Expanse’s amazing cast, crew and all the dedicated creatives who helped bring James S.A. Corey’s story to life. And to the series’ loyal fans, we thank you most of all.” “We are very disappointed the show will not be returning to Syfy,” said Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. “We respect Syfy’s decision to end this partnership but given the commercial and critical success of the show, we fully plan to pursue other opportunities for this terrific and original IP.” http://deadline.com/2018/05/the-expa...ed-1202388026/ |

Amazon in Talks to Pick Up Canceled Syfy Series "The Expanse"
by Nellie Andreeva May 21, 2018 There is hope for "The Expanse" beyond its upcoming third season, which will be the sci-fi drama’s last one on Syfy. I hear Alcon Television Group, which fully finances and produces "The Expanse", is in conversations with Amazon about picking up the critically praised series for Season 4. Sources stress the talks are still ongoing. Reps for both companies declined comment. http://deadline.com/2018/05/the-expa...fy-1202395538/ |

"The Expanse" Picked Up by Amazon for Season 4 after Syfy Cancellation
by Nellie Andreeva May 25, 2018 "The Expanse" has been saved! Amazon has closed a deal to pick up the sci-fi drama series, which is in its third and final season on Syfy. The announcement was made tonight by Amazon’s boss himself, Jeff Bezos, at National Space Society’s International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles where he was an honoree. It happened an hour or so after "The Expanse" panel at the same event that featured exec producer and showrunner Naren Shankar and cast members Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Steven Strait. "The Expanse" team was in the audience for Bezos’ Q&A, with one of them, Anvar, filming the big announcement. “I was talking to the cast half an hour ago, before the break for dinner started,” Bezos said. “I was telling them that we are working hard at Amazon to save The Expanse but it wasn’t a done deal yet. During dinner, ten minutes ago, I just got word that The Expanse is saved,” Bezos said to a big applause. “The show is extraordinary and these guys are unbelievably talented,” he added, pointing to "The Expanse" table. Said Alcon Entertainment Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson: “We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime! We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show. We also want to thank Laura Lancaster, head of Alcon Television, for her tireless efforts. We are fully aware that this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the staggering outpouring of support from the most creative, hardest working sci-fi fans around the world. From Reddit campaigns to airplanes, we say thank you. It worked!” http://deadline.com/2018/05/the-expa...on-1202398511/ |
