Default Tournament Round One: Head of the Class (1986) vs. The Addams Family

Head of the Class aired five seasons on ABC from 1986-1991. Howard Hesseman was the star of seasons 1-4 as Mr. Charlie Moore, teacher of the IHP: Individualized Honors Program for the school geniuses. The principal Dr. Harold Samuels did not like Charlie, he was intended to just be a substitute but became permanent. Howard did not want to continue with season 5. His replacement Billy Connolly as Billy MacGregor was horrible. The starting students were quiet but gorgeous Simone Foster (Khrystyne Haje), tough guy Eric Mardian (Brian Robbins) whose mother made him be part of the IHP, Arvid Engen (Dan Frischman), scam artist Dennis Blunden (Dan Schneider), Darlene Merriman (Robin Givens), Sarah Nevins (Kimberly Russell), Alan Pinkard (Tony O'Dell), Jawarhalal Choudhury (Jory Husain), Marie Borges (Leslie Bega), and 12 year old Janice Lazarotto (Tannis Vallely), who was much younger than her classmates. Jeanetta Arnette was the vice-principal Bernadette Meara. At the end of season 3 Janice, Maria, and Jawarhalal all left. Replacement students were Viki Amory (Lara Piper), Aristotle McKenzie (De'Voreaux White), Alex Torres (Michael DeLorenzo), and annoying T.J. Jones (Rain Pryor), who somehow had been moved up straight from the remedial class to the IHP. Even more absurd with T.J. was her being named valedictorian in the series finale over everyone else who had never been in remedial (Dennis was briefly demoted there).

There have been several Addams Family movies. But this is the TV show that started it all, airing two seasons on ABC from 1964-1966. Starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones as Gomez and Morticia Addams. Ted Cassidy was their giant butler Lurch. Ted's hand also played the creature Thing, who showed up in several different boxes around the spooky house. Their "kitty" was a full grown lion. Pugsley (Ken Weatherwax) and gloomy Wednesday (Lisa Loring) were Gomez and Morticia's kids. Jackie Coogan was Uncle Fester, and Blossom Rock was Grandmama Addams. Felix Silla recurred as furry Cousin Itt.

I liked HOTC because of all the hot chicks and Johnny Fever, but I voted for Addams Family.

Oh man! This is a tough one! I love both. AF. No, HOTC. No.

...I'm not voting on this one. It's too hard.

I voted for Head of the Class over The Addams Family because I'm not going to vote for any short-runners in this tournament. I watched every episode of HotC on the Roku Channel, and I didn't care how mediocre HotC's final season was. Plus, The Addams Family is simply one of the most overrated short-runners of all time.

I voted for The Addams Family. I could never get into Head of the Class and I only watched a few episodes of it.

Same with me !! I was never a fan of Head of the class , like you I only saw it a couple of times and wasn't impressed ! But the Addams family that is an old classic ROFL show! Seeing AF in reruns even after all these years when METV picked it up a little while ago still has me in belly laughs watching it !!

I believe this just in. Tie breakers should be broken by whichever show had the best theme song. AF.

The 1986 version of Head of the Class wins via great setting

No, how about just the show with the longer run and better ratings history (In this case, it would be Head of the Class)? Besides, I'm an instrumentals person, BTW.
