I know this group does not care for health topics but I'm taking a chance that some will appreciate this info.
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition...iency-symptoms I've questioned the potassium issue for a long time. When we are deficient in potassium we are MORE FATIGUED for starters. The other day in my doctor's office my BP was too high. Granted I was under added stress from a thyroid shortage I was dealing with and locating her new office location. Plus I had cut one BP med in half for some months and thought I was OK, guess not. But also the potassium issue. She said are you getting enough potassium? I thought I was BUT talking to a friend today and she deals with CFS, she said she takes over 1000 mg most days spread thru the day besides the foods she consume. Then she told me the RDA and I was in shock. http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/rda-...sium-3894.html Folate and thiamine pull potassium from our bodies. And I take both these supplements...so a double double whammy I think. And magnesium is so critical to be on top of as millions are deficient in this valuable mineral. So I'm upping my potassium even more gradually as I know for sure I'm not getting enough with foods. Do your research, talk to your doctors etc. And know the general RDA for potassium for adults is 4700mg and I know I get no where enough with my foods, and a banana probably has 100mg or so. Think about it folks, if you've got health issues mentioned here, potassium could be missing in your body. |

This is a cool topic. Potassium deficiencies can lead to fatigue and high blood pressure. Bananas, avocados, spinach, watermelon, potatoes, and apricots have good amounts of potassium in them.

Just know the RDA for adults is 4700mg daily and one has to eat a LOT of foods rich in potassium to get that. That is why I believe in supplements, as that is what they are, they supplement for what we don't get in foods. Glass of low sodium V8 contains about 800mg potassium. I try to drink it often but can't continue to do that. A banana about 100mg, an avacodo about 700mg as I recall. Look at the links on the many symptoms of low potassium. And ordinary mainstream docs have no education on nutrition, and they are not my go to doctors at all. |

I love bananas, so I have one every morning. I also take supplements.
Never had any problems with my potassium levels.

I used to eat bananas but have not had one in months. Been on an avocado kick but they are pricey so backing down a bit.
On the potassium problems, many are not aware of issues they have and don't connect it to low potassium, leg cramps are a major one. I don't get them at my late age. I keep my potassium up and feel when that mineral is running low. Again, awareness and minerals are so important. |

![]() I'm a huge fan of avocados. I had never tasted one until after I turned 12, which is crazy in retrospect. |

I agree with ripe bananas, there is nothing worse when the fruit is too soft and loses its firmness.

Bananas and blood sugar levels, as I've gotten older I watch blood sugar and stopping bananas I believe is due to high carbs. I don't have diabetes and don't want it.

I drink 1 glass of tomato juice everyday and I eat a cup of plain yogurt. Both are high in potassium. I'm allergic to banana's. I love them though. I know getting 3000 to 4000 mg a day is hard.

My potassium levels went really low and I got very ill when I was switched from my regular blood pressure med to one that contained a diuretic !
It didn't agree with me and I had to go back on my old beta blocker BP med ! Also I loaded up on bananas, avocado, and cantaloupe ( The doctor said they were all good for potassium )!
