I am referring to the episode where Danny accidentally donates Laurie's diary. She was talking to her mom and hinting about it. Considering how liberal the word sex was used on the show, even by the little kids. It just seems silly.

Even over 10 years later on Who's The Boss the characters kept having to say "foundation garment" in the episode where Samantha got her first training bra.

They used that word a few times on Green Acres, as early as 1967. Maybe the censors changed sometime after that.

It might have something to do with the age of the female with the bra, as well.
In the Facts of Life episode "Best Sister", they use the word "lesbian" when the fully-grown Meg says the word. But they don't use the word in "Rough Housing": Cindy is just described by Blair as "strange". The word is never used throughout the episode, although they do allow "touching and hugging girls". You never know what TV execs, film ratings boards, etc., are going to object to. The 2004 film Mean Girls was forced to dub "is your muffin buttered?" over the already filmed line "is your cherry popped?" and still got an MPAA rating of PG-13, while the 1988 film Beetlejuice got a PG rating, despite the line, "Nice ****ing model!" Tina Fey has stated that the "cherry" line never would have been changed if the movie had been about teen boys. The "foundation garment" euphemism on WTB is so over the top (although, of course, it goes under the top )
