It's been noted that unlike the book or movies, Gidget's dad was a widower in the TV series. Her late mom gets mentioned rarely. Should Gidget have had a mother on the TV show? How would it have affected the TV show?

I like the show just fine with just the father. But I could have easily been just as happy if they did have both a mother and father. I can see advantages in both scenarios. Different interactions and discussions with both parents but less individuality and less intense the relationship with a mother thrown in too. But either way would have worked in a different manner.
