Here is the opener of the pilot of Alice which appeared 45 years ago today. They had Tommy from the movie as Tommy instead of Phillip McKeon.

It was a wise move, to have McKeon play the role in the series. I wonder if the actor from the movie just signed on for the pilot, or if he was purposely replaced. it may say as much in that Alice book, which I have yet to get.

In the comments section of the video, it says he was replaced because he looked too old. I have no idea where that info comes from, though.

That tommy looked like a weirdo so it was good they didnt use him

He sure looked nerdy. Guess the show would have been a little different, with Alice complaining every week about her son spending all of his time conducting lab experiments in their basement.
