Default Here and Now

Does anybody remember this short-lived NBC sitcom, starring Malcom Jamal Warner of Cosby Show?

Default Here And Now- One On Won (S1/E4 Full Episode)

IMDB https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103440/

It was a very solid show with a great cast (S Epatha Merkerson, Daryl 'Chill' Mitchell, Rachael Crawford, Jessica Stone, Shaun Weiss, ) in my mind. It wasn't given a fair shot to succeed with only 13 episodes filmed.

Maybe if Malcolm Jamal-Warner had carried his Cosby Show character Theo Huxtable over to the Here And Now tv show it might have had a better chance to catch on with the tv viewing audience & NBC network.

Default Malcolm Jamal-Warner...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E44T6D2yBqg

FoundationINTERVIEWS Video: Malcolm Jamal Warner discusses his 1992 sitcom- Here And Now (2014).

Sun Sentinel https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl...487-story.html

THAT WAS 'COSBY' --- THIS IS 'HERE AND NOW'

No sense tampering with a winning formula.

Alexander James, the character Malcolm-Jamal Warner plays in the new NBC comedy Here and Now, is a clone of Cosby's Theo Huxtable. Same values, same attitudes, same expressions.

Well, there are a few minor differences. A.J. isn't funny, A.J. isn't believable and A.J. is excruciatingly overacted.

Dr. William H. Cosby Jr., who is busy with his syndicated revival of You Bet Your Life, has an executive producer's credit on his former TV son's new series, but Warner absolved him of all blame.

"After eight years, it's like I'm here," Warner said. "This is me. This is my show. This is my vision, my thoughts, my ideas. This is me."

Someday soon, he'll be sorry he said that.

But if recognizing a problem is the first step toward solving it, there is hope. "One of the challenges for me is trying to be aware of not automatically doing the same things or reacting the same way I would after doing Theo for eight years," Warner said. "Once you get to do a sitcom, you kind of get into doing this character and everything you do is somewhat automatic."

Even if Warner manages to hone a distinct identity for his new character, he still will be burdened with a sorry show.

A.J. is an idealistic New York City college student who works after school as a counselor in an inner-city youth center. He wants to be a friend, adviser and confidante to his young charges. They are single-minded -- as only kids in unimaginative sitcoms are -- in their desire to talk about sex.

The premiere turns on A.J.'s effort to exercise control over an incorrigible brat who is the kid brother of the neighborhood drug dealer and cutthroat.

A.J.'s best pal and assistant at the center, T -- he's too immature to be called Mr. -- is a recycling of an offensive stereotype. Played by Daryl Mitchell, T is a run-your-mouth-off conniver who has a seat on the stolen goods exchange.

Home for A.J. is a room at the apartment of "Uncle" Sid, a war buddy of A.J.'s dad. It turns out that Sid's little girl, Danielle, who A.J. hasn't seen since she was 7, has matured into a knockout.

Sid insists that A.J. think of Danielle as a cousin. That's fine with A.J., as long as it means a potential kissing cousin.

The feeling isn't mutual. Danielle does the same thing discriminating viewers are likely to do. She kisses A.J. off.

HERE AND NOW

Premiere: Tonight at 8 p.m. on WTVJ-Ch. 4 and WPTV-Ch. 5

Airs: Saturdays at 8 p.m.

Starring: Malcom-Jamal Warner.

Jicha says: The former Theo Huxtable is about to discover what a cruel world show business can be when your father -- even if he's only your TV father -- isn't Bill Cosby.
