Default CHCH TV Schedule Changes - Summer 2021

CHCH TV has already announced their primetime lineup but they have yet to say anything about what their retro daytime schedule will look like in the fall which simply astounds me. However, they will be making a few changes in the summer that, while not very significant, could impact what will happen in the fall.

Those changes begin this week as "The Odd Couple" will replace "The Partridge Family" beginning Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm. Two weeks later, on Monday July 26, "Maude" will be gone and "Get Smart" will take its place at 4:30 pm, which for me looks like one huge upgrade!

In August, other shows will be leaving and will either be replaced or return again to start from Season 1. Don't expect anything new or different until September when there figures to be a few surprises in store. In the meantime, keep an eye out for "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Gilligan's Island", and "The Flying Nun". These series make up a very strong lunchtime lineup along with "Green Acres" and all three will be in their final seasons in August. This is where I expect the new fall lineup to have the biggest impact. Hopefully, it will be another great one like it was last year. I will let you know when it happens.

At this point expectations are low. Why the delay?

I'm surprised that The Odd Couple is coming back so soon. The day after TOC appeared on the Passport TV schedule, CHCH already aired a commercial that stated that TOC aired daily at 3pm. This is while The Partridge Family still had a couple of weeks worth of shows airing at 3pm.

What's going on, CHCH?

(I do love the channel. Love the retro shows.)

Thanks for the update as always, Sal. I'm hoping for some pleasant surprises from their fall line up, but the delay makes me nervous. Fingers crossed!

Get Smart is back on. I was hoping for something different. They need to mix it up. At least bring Taxi back.

We are now into August and still no announcement is imminent regarding the fall daytime lineup so I'll try and go through each series one by one and see where things stand as of today while trying to figure out what might happen later on and when the big news might finally arrive.

10:00 am Matlock - Season 3 of 9

11:00 am Green Acres - Season 3 of 6

11:30 am Beverly Hillbillies - Season 9 - Final Season

Both "Matlock" and "Green Acres" will remain on their current times for awhile unless they are given new time slots for the fall but the Clampetts will soon be heading back to the hills in September and so this is where we should see our first big change for the fall. There are 18 episodes left so unless they are coming back for a second cycle expect a new addition here very soon. Estimated time of arrival (ETA): Thursday August 26.

12:00 pm Gilligan's Island - Season 3

The Season 3 premiere "Up At Bat" was on last Friday so there remains one whole season left to show before Gilligan leaves the island. Season 3 had 30 episodes so give this one about a month and a half before it leaves. ETA: Monday Sept. 14

12:30 - The Flying Nun - Season 3

Like "Gilligan's Island", "The Flying Nun" only lasted 3 seasons but it had fewer episodes so it will end sooner, and once again we are looking at a replacement to arrive before September. ETA: Monday August 23.

1:00 Hawaii 5-0 - Season 7 of 11

2:00 Family Ties - Season 3 of 7

2:30 Brady Bunch - Season 4 of 5

One more month to go before the Bradys are done for the summer but they should be a good bet to return later in the fall, possibly just before Christmas when "Hawaii 5-0" and "Family Ties" will be leaving. ETA: Tuesday September 21.

3:00 The Odd Couple - Season 1 of 5

3:30 Soap - Season 4

"Soap" is also in its final season with 3 weeks left and a late August replacement coming up. ETA: Monday August 23.

4:00 Benson - Season 7

Final season that will end a few days before "Soap", the show it spun off from. ETA: Friday August 20

4:30 Get Smart - Season 1 of 5

5:00 Designing Women - Season 6 of 7

One month to go before it mercifully ends. ETA: Thursday September 10

5:30 Who's The Boss? - Season 4 of 8

Unfortunately, this show is not leaving anytime soon. We're stuck with it until Christmas when it will hopefully vanish and turn into a lump of coal.

Looking at the schedule as a whole, it looks there are 3 different periods that will see the biggest changes: late August, mid-September, and just before Christmas. So the big fall launch should happen the week of Monday August 23 with the full official announcement to arrive a few days before, likely on August 9th. When it happens, and even if it doesn't, keep it here. I will give you all the details.

I will be glad when the Hillbilly shows are gone. I hope they don't bring bewitched back. Can't stand Designing women or Who's the Boss.

What new ones would everyone here like to see added? I would like to see WKRP, Alice, Leave It To Beaver. And I wouldn't mind if they brought Happy Days and Taxi back.

It doesn't look like CHCH plans on adding different retro shows to their lineup, and they are staying with shows that have already aired at least once. The last show they added that had not aired on the channel before is "Designing Women," which I like through seasons 1-5. The last two seasons are known for being really awful, and they are.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bewitched or I Love Lucy come back, and the other classics they keep airing, like The Brady Bunch or Gilligan's Island, Family Ties.

There are certain shows that have been re-airing for too long, like Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, Matlock and The Flying Nun.

I would love to see WKRP in Cincinnati, or Rockford Files, but I'm not expecting much at this point.

I'm not expecting much either until around mid-September when I expect the new stuff to arrive. What that is I don't know yet, but they still refuse to tell us. So I have to look for clues on my own and I found a couple of interesting schedule changes that will take place next Monday but they will only last for a couple of weeks so please bear with me while I explain them.

1. "The Beverly Hillbillies" will air its last episode this Thursday and will then return to the beginning with the premiere episode "The Clampetts Strike Oil" scheduled for Friday at 11:30 am.

2. "The Prisoner", which first appeared as part of last fall's new premieres, will return next Monday at 12:00 pm for another brief 17 episode run replacing "Gilligan's Island" and "The Flying Nun" which will end this week.

3. "Gilligan's Island" will complete its 3rd and final season in a different time slot once "The Prisoner" arrives. It will show up in back to back episodes starting Monday at 3:30 and 4:00 pm replacing both "Soap" and "Benson".

"The Prisoner" will end the week of Sept. 14th, two weeks after Gilligan. Think of that as being the unofficial premiere week for the new retro schedule.
