Question Did Anybody From The Cast Of The Andy Griffith Show Guest Star on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C

If so who? If not...why not?!

There was an episode in which Opie ran away from home or something to join the Marines, and ended up popping in on Gomer at Camp Henderson. I think the title of the ep was Opie Joins the Marines or something like that. I think Andy may have come out to CA to pick up Opie in that episode as well. I'm not sure which season of GP USMC it aired, probably the 4th or 5th (GP lasted 5 seasons).

There was another episode in which Gomer went back to Mayberry on a vacation, so Mayberry was the setting for that episode. He ended up working back at the "fillin' station" for a few days while he was there, and was involved in foiling a robbery.

I think some of the Mayberry "extras" also appeared occasionally in GP episodes.

I know that Maudie Prickett, who appeared in a number of Andy Griffith show episodes, also appeared in at least two eps of Gomer Pyle... she played a bank teller in one ep, and a phone company employee in another.

We happen to have both complete series on DVD. I'm not sure what other crossovers there were, but I'm sure I've missed a few.

Frances Bavier also appeared in at least one episode.

there was a 4th season episode where Gomer went back to Mayberry for a surprise visit, only to find that Andy, Opie, and Aunt Bee had gone on vacation and Goober had gone with them, and the 4 of them made cameos at the end, then there was a 2nd season episode where Opie ran away and came to Camp Henderson because he wanted to join the marines, and Andy was also in the tag scene of it, Then there was another 2nd season one where Goober came to Camp Henderson because he wanted to be a marine and thought he could just try it out to see if he likes it. Then in another 4th season episode, Aunt Bee came to visit Gomer.

Somehow I missed all of these except the one where Opie runs away and Andy comes out to get him, but now I have a reason to check whenever Gomer is coming on.

So, Gomer was in Mayberry and who was left, Howard and Emmett?

haven't seen the episode in years, but from what I remember Howard and Emmett weren't in it and there was no one left in town that he knew.

I remember the Opie episode, and I believe Andy was on the Gomer pilot. Been a long time since I've watched Gomer Pyle.

The pilot aired as an episode of TAGS, Andy appeared in 2 episodes, "Gomer Goes Home" and "Opie Joins the Marines."

Parley Baer (Mayor Stoner) also appeared in 2 episodes but played different characters.

I remember when I was little I saw the Opie one & at the time CBS was rerunning TAGS on weekdays with the title changed to ANDY OF MAYBERRY (so audiences wouldn't confuse it with TAGS which was still airing original episodes in prime-time) and I had only seen TAGS a couple times so when that episode aired I didn't know that he was from Gomers hometown (I also didn't know that Gomer used to be a character on TAGS) and when Andy guest-starred in the tag scene, I thought that "that guy from ANDY OF MAYBERRY" was guest-starring. It was only 3 or 4 years later that I found out about everything.

It definitely would have helped if they had appeared.
