Archie was telling Lionel that

Colored People has to act nicer, behave nicer and try harder"

Lionel's response was......"That's right we's like Avis"

History fact.......In the early 70's the car rental company called Avis had a slogan that was "We Try Harder"

When I heard it I to do some research because I wasn't around in 1972 lol

Avis was 2nd fiddle to Hertz as far as car rental agencies. Their slogan acknowledged that they weren't the top in the car rental business.
