Default Wednesday would have been Robin Williams’ 70th birthday

So I thought it would be a good occasion to for us to appreciate the man… share some chips, some stories or some reflections on this still beloved — and very missed — brilliant, gentle man.

I've never cried so hard over a celebrity's death before. While I really enjoyed his comedy and thought he was a brilliant actor; Williams was never in my "top tier" fandoms. However, his suicide broke my heart. I know he was not in his right mind due to his Lewey (sp?) Body Dementia, but I wish with all of my heart that he could have felt and known how many lives he positively influenced.

I watched a documentary about a year ago called Robin’s Wish. It’s about what Robin went through the last year of his life, and includes the full participation of his wife, friends, co-stars, and some of his doctors. This is going to sound awful — and it doesn’t negate the sadness I felt, and still feel, about his death — but I completely get why he chose to go out like that. He was living an unending personal hell and it was only going to get worse.

I wish more people knew about his Lewy Body, because there are still misconceptions he killed himself solely because he was depressed or that he’d relapsed and killed himself out of shame or guilt (only therapeutic, prescribed levels of his medication were found in his bloodstream; no illicit drugs). That’s, I think, one of the reasons why they decided to make the documentary.

A dear friend's mom was diagnosed with LBD after Williams' passing. Her last few years were pretty heartbreaking.

My grandma had it secondary to her Parkinson’s. She died in 2009. It was awful to watch helplessly as she deteriorated.
