I loved ALL of Barney Miller. Every single ep. So naturally, I realy enjoyed this season too, even with the tweaks.

I love Barney Miller pretty much in its entirety. Of course I have favorite episodes like “Werewolf” and Wojo’s girlfriend’s infamous brownies. And I was always sad to see beloved characters leave (Fish, Jack Soo’s passing), but the show rarely missed a beat in casting. Steve Landesberg was a particular gem (his Gregory Peck impression was priceless....”Beverly is busy....”). Most shows lose some of their punch in the later seasons, but “Barney” did not in my opinion. The “perps” and guest stars were spot-on as well - it was always a treat to see Jack Kruschen, Don Calfa and Doris Roberts, to mention a few.

I thought Season 8 was just as great as the previous ones. As Becca3557 said, most long running series have a weak final season as writers repeat storylines or try adding a new character but that was not the case with Barney Miller. The cops just kept plugging along at the ol' one two, and we were introduced to many more amusing one shot characters. My favourite episodes were "Tontine" which just had a really great plot and theatrical acting, "Old Love" where we got to see another side of Dietrich and "Altercation" where Harris punches the scuzzy lawyer who previously sued him. The 3 part finale "Landmark" was fantastic; low key, realistic, with just the right amount of sentimentality. The reunion of most memorable recurring characters was a nice touch and the promotions for both Barney and Levitt were very appropriate.

I only started watching the series last summer but was hooked almost immediately and now I'm obsessed! I just wish it was more well known with TV fans.

The last season was just as good as the earlier seasons.

I didn't started watching Barney Miller on a regular basis until September 1979 (season 6). It became my favorite show. I was disappointed when they announced it would end after season 8. I think they did a good job wrapping things up. I cried at the end of the last show.
