Default Old TV Series on Canadian TV

The Canadian upfronts begin tomorrow with CBC going first as usual but the next day will be the big one for retro TV fans when CHCH steps up with their new lineup. I have no doubt that it will be a good one no matter what's on there but what I feel they need more than anything is a little competition. While new retro stations tend to crop up at least once a year in the US, up north the acquisition of new, different classic series for various channels tends to happen slower than the arrival of the new COVID 19 vaccines. With more than 1000 cable and digital channels around, you would think there would be room on at least one of them for "Andy Griffith" and "Leave It To Beaver". Here's what we are currently getting instead from each channel:

CHEK Vancouver - Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley - Back to back episodes starting Fridays at 11 pm.

Vision TV - Highway to Heaven, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Quantum Leap, Murder, She Wrote - Weekdays beginning at 3 pm.

ABC Spark - 8 Simple Rules

MUCH - Seinfeld, Married With Children

MTV - Married With Children

BET - A Different World

CMT - Three's Company, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond

CTV Comedy - Friends

Game TV (Canadian game show channel): Super Password, Tic Tac Dough, Press Your Luck, Match Game, $100, 000 Pyramid

GSN - Game Show Network - Match Game

- and most disappointing of all - :

Yes TV - Judging Amy, Diagnosis: Murder, I Love Lucy (3:00 am )

DejaView - Three's Company, Frasier, King Of Queens

That's not much to get excited about. Hopefully this week will bring better results --- at least from one source!

I am only enjoying Partridge Family and Brady Bunch. They need to change things up.

Those are my favorites too (do they not look better together?) along with Green Acres and Gilligan's Island. I think by the fall there will be a few changes and I'll have the full schedule and further details on it when it happens.

Yes I agree those two shows are perfect airing back to back Sal. It was funny seeing Jodie Foster on The Partridge Family the other day. lol i wish they would bring Taxi back and maybe some shows I haven't seen in a long time like Alice etc.

The only disappointment with CHCH (besides the fall press release not including any information about what retro shows they will be airing this fall) is that they decided to continue airing Matlock and Green Acres once the shows had aired all episodes. They just started again. Big disappointment.

I actually like a lot of the shows airing now, some of which I have never seen (like Maude, Benson, Hawaii Five-0) and some that I forgot I liked (like The Brady Bunch or Gilligan's Island).

Every once in a while I try to watch The Flying Nun or The Partridge Family...but they just don't appeal to me. But I do like the majority of shows airing on CHCH right now, and I am trying to guess what they might add in the fall schedule that I would actually like to see.

YesTV fall schedule is nothing at all. I can't believe the big change is that they dropped the 3am airing of I Love Lucy and that they switched Diagnosis Murder and JAG times so JAG airs at 2am and DM airs at 2pm. But I do prefer DM to JAG, so I might actually watch it this fall. They really haven't added anything very good to the schedule.

I tried to watch The Flying Nun too Katie but it was awful. Maude has some laughs. Bea Arthur was good on that show. I don't like Soap or Benson either.

I saw the Yes TV schedule too and I'm not very impressed either. They didn't exactly drop "I Love Lucy" but instead they moved it from 3 to 3:30 am which doesn't help at all. The only new program of note is a reboot of "You Bet Your Life" now hosted by Jay Leno. Everything else is coming back.

I didn't notice ILL on the fall schedule (the logo is so tiny that I missed it) so that's good to know, and you're right, the move to 3:30am doesn't help at all.

Yes, The Flying Nun is another show that CHCH brought back much too soon, when I was hoping they would never air it again.

Bea Arthur is amazing. It's great to see her in something different, playing such a different character, but you see a little bit of what she brought to Dorothy on The Golden Girls, and Rue as Vivian...it's fun to see her playing such a ditzy character instead of Blanche.

I find Soap to be crazy/wacky but entertaining, but Benson is just average most of the time.

I explain that on the Fall Preview Page and it all seems very sad to me. Lucy deserves a lot better!

An all-Canadian classic TV station would be a great idea. For one thing, you would have 100% Canadian content so you don't have to worry about breaking any rules. Also, you would have shows that people would actually want to watch again, like the ones mentioned above and you can include these ones as well:

The Trouble With Tracy YouTube (I LOVED this show!!)

Definition

The Mad Dash

Canada's Game Shows - YouTube

Party Game

The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein

Polka Dot Door

Uncle Bobby

Bizarre

I hope you like these shows. If you wish, I can find more.

I remember a lot of the game shows and a couple of the other tv shows that you posted. Yes, feel free to add any more tv shows that you have remembrance of.
