In Defense of ‘Here’s Lucy’

“Here’s Lucy”, on its own merits, is awful. Lucy’s kids are terrible. Gale Gordon’s character is a jerk. And Lucille Ball is constantly reading off cue cards. Add the warmed-over plots, the constant musical numbers, and the lame-ass guest stars, and you have one bad show.

It sounds like you really dislike this show.

I do agree that I also could do without some of the music numbers and yes a number of the plots are old hat, even at the time.

Lucie certainly had/has talent, in particular. This series had the biggest names in guest stars, I cannot think of any other sitcom that had this roster of big name guest stars.

This series certainly could have used more continuity and focus. The characters could have been more well defined.

Most of the episodes are good, but not great, however there are some real winners and some real stinkers mixed in.

I binge-watched "Here's Lucy" recently. At first I was enjoying it, but as the seasons went on I realized it was just a vehicle for various actors to guest star each week. It was cookie-cutter, predictable and got old fast.

Even though her kids were not great actors, It was cool seeing them in the show. I also liked the episodes where V Vance appeared. Gale Gordon did indeed become more obnoxious in this one.

Lucille Ball is a legend, so talented and funny, I really love her, but I wish this show had more variety.
