Default I don’t get why people take Sophia so seriously

She was meant to be the comic relief of the show. Sophia played a big part in the show. Would you really have tuned in to see Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose be pleasant towards each other all the time?

I never took her crabbiness literally; she likes to come across as Queen of the witches, but at the end of the day, can be kind in her actions.

Sophia had a tendency to bluntly tell the truth, which is why I think fans get offended by her.

And so does Dorothy ; the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

I always did see a similarity between Sophia and Dorothy but couldn’t quite hint it out until now.

Dorothy is blunt, but she's not mean, vindictive or cruel. Sophia is mean, vindictive and cruel. I see a big difference with the two. I don't like Sophia. She's too nasty, also a lousy mother.

I don’t think she’s quite as evil as you make her out - I just think she needs a good laxative LOL

True, I agree with you up to the lousy mother part. Isn’t that the same lousy mother who confronted the doctors who misdiagnosed her daughter, supervised her daughter on her first day of school instead of leaving it in the teacher’s hands, and the list goes on?

She's also the same lousy mother who completely disowned her son Phil and her grandchildren because Phil's wife's dowry check bounced.
She's the same lousy mother who turned Dorothy's prom date away and let her believe that the guy just stood her up.
She's the same lousy mother who fixed up her daughter Gloria with Dorothy's ex-husband.
Do I need to go on?

The others ones I agree with. They were absolutely absurd.

As for #2, Dorothy’s prom date showed up looking like a bum and mouth offed to Sophia. Sophia thought he was a bad influence and wanted Dorothy to go out to her prom with class and style. I see nothing wrong with that.

I would agree with you if she was honest about it. What is wrong is that Sophia didn't tell Dorothy the truth. She let her believe that the guy stood her up. She was selfish and cruel.

I think what they were trying to convey was that if Sophia would’ve told Dorothy the truth, she still would’ve blown up and wouldn’t have believed Sophia, so that’s why Sophia lied.

So rather than face the consequences of her actions, Sophia chose for Dorothy to feel rejected and totally humiliated all so she could save her own ass. That's some awesome parenting.

She was a mixed bag. Sometimes nice sometimes evil. I LOVE IT, when she’s working Dorothy’s last nerve, how Dorothy threatens her with THE HOME. LOL

Yes, I also love it when Dorothy threatens the old bat with: "Shady Pines, Ma." That always shuts her up right away!
