After contemplating this for the last five years, I'm moving it to the 1980s sitcoms section. Although I think it had more a 1970s vibe to it well into the 1980s, more seasons and episodes aired during the 1980s. I will leave a redirect in the 1970s sitcoms section, so people can still find it there.

Man, my memory is really getting shot. I argued one way in this thread (2015), but yesterday I claimed I had argued the opposite...! So think I owe James28 an apology.

The Love Boat started in 1977 and ran well into the 1980's so it's true the majority of episodes aired in the 1980's. But to me, the series has a 1970's vibe to it so I consider it a 1970's show and would have kept it in the 1970's section here but that's just my opinion.

I always thought that Love Boat has a more 80s vibe. Many people seem to associate the 80s with upbeat, colorfulness, lightheartedness, glamour, and a soapyness. And that's how I also look at Love Boat.

Arguably, a lot of people also associate the 80s with downbeat grittiness, like Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, Wiseguy, China Beach, T.J. Hooker, Manimal, The Equalizer, etc. If the 70s weren't upbeat, lighthearted and colorful, then you weren't watching The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Three's Company or even Donny & Marie. For that matter, even the 60s were upbeat with The Monkees, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, Jetsons, Flintstones and F-Troop.
