Default Still trying to figure out why these characters were absent for Janet’s wedding

Janet’s parents

Mr. and Mrs. Roper

Chrissy

Cindy

Lana

Janet’s sister

At least Janet’s parents and Janet’s sister should’ve attended.

Yeah, they really should have made it a true reunion: get everyone back (except, of course, for Suzanne, since they didn't want to go there), and then have Janet get a "phone call" from Chrissy (where Chrissy isn't shown).

The producers of the show just didn't care sadly. Fans of the show like us cared more. The show never cared about attention to detail or past characters they just never existed anymore. They were not going to spend anymore money than they had to.

They should have brought The Ropers back considering they lived 15 min away. They should have brought Cindy back. She was at university not far away and they should have had Chrissy send a goofy telegram. Don't punish the character just because you don't like Suzanne.

All of those things would have been wonderful, but as you say, the producers didn't care about character continuity. Old characters, for the most part, just... ceased to exist.

A good example I can think of where the show cared for continuity was the finale to Seinfeld in which almost every one shot character showed up.

Cindy, Chrissy, Stanley and Helen all should have been there. Along with Janet's family.

I thought the Seinfeld finale was too much of a clip show, but the character continuity was actually a nice touch.

The TC producers blew it in not making Janet's wedding a major TV event with all of the past characters returning. I guess by trying to keep the Three's a Crowd spinoff a secret from the cast, they couldn't build up the series finale wedding, so one mistake compounded into another one.

If it was a finale I think the major TV event would have been Jack getting married not janet unelss it was to each other

Phillip and Vicky should’ve never been introduced. Instead, it should’ve gone like this:

Jack and Janet go on a date and develop feelings for each other

Mr. Furley meets a female companion and proposes to her, she accepts

Jack proposes to Janet and she accepts too

The show concludes with Jack and Janet getting married and having a wedding, with Cindy, Terri, Mr. Furley and his fiancé, Mr. and Mrs. Roper, Larry, Mr. Angelino, Dean Travers, Jack and Janet’s parents, Jack’s brother Lee, and Janet’s sister, Jenny, and Jack and Janet’s other relatives attending with Chrissy sending a telegram and Jack, Janet, and Terri deciding to move out

I guess they were trying to go with what the British show had done which was have the Jack character (Robin) marry Vicky (same name in the UK and US shows) for the continuation/spin off series.

That being said, I didn't like Vicky, and thought Jack and Janet would have had better chemistry as a couple.

It is one of the worst series finales of a long time popular series. There is nothing special about it. The producers were more interested in the spin off. Even Joyce has said she felt like she had been sort of kicked to the curb.

Do you know that ABC executives actually entertained the idea of Jack falling for Crissy and moving in together for Threes A Crowd. It was not taken too serious but it was discussed. Saw it on the True Hollywood Story of Threes Company. The network just did not want to go there and had no idea how to approach Suzanne. It was actually discussed. John gave a lame answer why Janet was not the love interest for the new show. He said that the audience already met Janet's parents and it would not work with the new show LOL.
