I've read more than enough about theories that assume Rob's innocence, now I'd like to hear more about the theory that he's guilty. So I'm curious, if Rob did it, how do YOU think it went down? |

This may be a bit long so bear with me. This is my personal theory about what I think happened. I think that after Angie's friend dropped her off after hanging out, Angie called Rob from the payphone at the grocery store. I think that while talking on the phone a nasty argument broke out between them and Rob drove up to the payphone area to confront Angie about whatever it was they were arguing about on the phone. After getting to the payphone area Angie had gotten into Rob's car to continue talking/fighting and Rob drove elsewhere so they could continue the argument in private. I believe that Rob struck Angie in the midst of the fight and killed her which could've been accidental. I'm not sure what happened there. I don't know if it was a heat of the moment ordeal where he struck her and killed her by accident, or if was intentional. I believe Rob hid her body in the wilderness out there somewhere. Perhaps a lake, buried her deep in the woods, or a secluded spot he know couldn't be easily found. I'm also curious if he moved her body from a different location after the search went underway. After hiding her body and driving to/back from wherever he was going his transmission blew out and the rest is history. |

Thank you so much for your reply, freakbook.
Is it true the phone call lasted from around 11:15 to 11:45 giving Rob only 15 minutes to kill Angela, hide her body and go to the police station? I don't know the distances between these locations, but would it be doable? So you think Rob was more or less forced to make up the story about him pursuing the kidnapper? Kind of like Hazelynn Stomps? I do think that makes more sense than him blowing the transmission and making up such a fantastical story intentionally. I think your theory is very plausible, by the way, I'd just like to know more details to see how plausible. |

It’s worth exploring whether Rob did it. I think that theory breaks down for a number of reasons, but it’s got to be discussed to vet out a complete understanding of the case. UM has MANY times presented a narrative of a case that strongly suggests one side of the story over the other, even though upon independent review of the case it’s clear there’s much more going on. I’ve never heard a compelling case for Rob doing it, but it doesn’t mean there is NO rational opinion for that theory.

Let's say that Angela used a phone card, or put in enough change ahead of time so that there's 60 minutes pre-paid of call time already paid for. Let's say they talk on the phone for 3 minutes and then the fight breaks out and one or both drop the phone without hanging up the receiver. That time will still count down even if they're not talking until someone hangs up or the time runs out on the pay phone. So technically Rob could've had more time to murder her and hide the body then we thought. We're just going off the time the phones were connected, not the actual conversation. They also lived right next to a huge wooded area and lake, so he wouldn't have had to go far to hide her body as they lived in a rural area. I do have a second theory, and it has to do with Rob being innocent. You said something very important "So you think Rob was more or less forced to make up the story about him pursuing the kidnapper?" Yes. My second theory is that Rob had nothing to do with her disappearance but made everything up, so he wouldn't be framed as a suspect. It's possible that Angie did get kidnapped, or voluntarily drove off with someone else and Rob had no idea what had happened but made-up the story about the kidnapping. His transmission could've blown out if he was riding around looking for her. That said I really don't believe his "kidnapping" story at all. Yes I know weird stories happened like Charles Holden, but his story is way too convenient. Angie conveniently described his attire, vehicle, but not his license plate or anything else that could give authorities a clue? You chased him for a while with your highlights behind his vehicle but you conveniently never took the time to view his license plate? And you also happened to just be passing by the guy kidnapping your girlfriend, but your car gave out just at the nick of time before you could follow him further? His whole story is completely unbelievable to me. It's all just a little "so close, but so far" hollywood teenage drama for me |

Wasn't Angela's abductor supposed to be older? Did he own a truck like the one seen? Was he known to be in the area at the time? |

As for Rob, if your girlfriend is being abducted, you will likely be focused on chasing down the truck, not getting the license number that will do no good if her life is in danger from a kidnapper. It may get the guy caught but it will likely be to late for her. Besides from the way it was described Rob likely did not get close enough to make it out. The damage to his car was verified by the police, he likely threw it in reverse because he didn't have time to go find a place to turn around. In short, your your bringing up things that do have rational explanations and portraying them to be definitive lies by Rob. The Rob did it crowd just seems to be to determined to believe he did it. |

Maybe he threw it in reverse when he hit Angie with his vehicle earlier before discarding her body. According to Freakbook (which is very important to distinct). |

I think a reddit thread mentioned she used a phone card. I'm old enough to remember public phone booths, but I never really used them myself so I'm not 100% sure how they worked, especially in the US.
I'm just thinking what would be the most likely scenario for the phones to stay connected. Maybe Rob told his brother to keep Angela on the phone so she wouldn't leave? And then he grabbed her so she wasn't able to hang up? Do we know if the public phone was found to be off the hook? Just like you I also have a couple of issues with Rob's kidnapping story. If Angela wasn't worried about making late night phone calls at a public phone booth, would she really be so concerned about a stranger hanging about? It would probably not be such a strange occurrence. Would a 20-year old girl really have the wits to start describing the man and his truck to her boyfriend? Would the young boyfriend really be so concerned to ask for that information, actually remember it, immediately get into his car to save his girlfriend and recognize the truck in passing? I don't know, kids that age seem more nonchalant about things. Would he really have been able to hear her scream his name and see her in his rear window in the dark? Would she really have been able to see him? Would the abductor really not restrain her? Besides the transmission blowing at exactly the wrong time, the words spoken by the abductor ("I didn't need to use the phone anyway") also seem rather Hollywood. And would Rob really have been able to hear him? He does so many smart things and remembers so many details, but somehow doesn't take a look at the license plate number, not even a part of it. Separately those things might not seem so peculiar, but together they're a strange bunch of coincidences. |

Yeah, that story makes no sense. I'm with you, what 20 year-old would describe this man's appearance and vehicle for that long without ever getting inside of her own car at any point? Not thinking about the safety of her unborn child? I just don't understand that if she was that concerned to conveniently describe this man for that long to conveniently give Rob a description to give the police (hint hint) then why did she never get in her car? If he's asking all of these questions why not just tell her to get in her car and lock the door before he parked? I mean she described his vehicle before he parked and not one of them had the bright idea to tell her to get in the car? I don't buy it |

That's another issue. Personally, if someone freaked me out like that I would just run to my car as fast as possible.

On one hand she was extremely concerned, but on the other hand she wasn't? That just doesn't make much sense to me. Her behavior seems so contradictory.

Yep. And I can't even use the excuse they were being careless, typical teenagers. Because if they were so careless and lackadaisical then why did both of them talk about this stranger and his vehicle for so long? They were concerned enough to talk about him but not go to the car?

To me, there's no doubt his story is strange, that's why it intrigues me to figure out the most likely "Rob did it" theory. The phones staying connected while Rob went out is a very interesting idea, although it was a very lucky coincidence if the murder wasn't planned. So what do you think? Just luck? |
