William Frough was the producer of Bewitched in the third season.

Fast forward to 44:33

At 44:33 William Frough starts talking about Elizabeth Montgomery wanting York fired, and how she couldn't stand him, he also talks about York constantly staring at Liz and how that annoyed her.

This is interesting because this man was the producer of Bewitched in the third season, he was there on the set, so what he says is believable.

This is not a random article written by a random person who wasn't even born when Bewitched aired, this is the producer of Bewitched himself, and you can hear his explanation.

So what are your thoughts on this? how do you feel about York staring at Elizabeth Montgomery all the time and annoying her to the point Liz wanted him fired?

So, he walks into the situation late, and spends a year there. And based on this he's speculating? Sounds like he doesn't know the whole truth to me. But somehow everyone else involved with York liked him.

It's clear Montgomery had major issues with men who were not gay. Boy, this guy just rips Elizabeth Montgomery a new one in this interview, calling her nuts. Just rips her to shreds.

Well, damn! I was just coming to the board today (April 15th) to see if anyone had wished Liz a happy 88th birthday (no one did, btw) but from the sounds of that clip and some of these responses it's not too surprising. I mean, who'd want to wish happy birthday to someone who was such a monster to work with day in, day out? A monstrous, nutty tough cookie to work with. Sure am glad I wasn't playing Darrin, she'd a had me fired too!

This interview sounds a lot more damning against EM than DY. I still love them both as they are both just human. Happy birthday Liz.

Dick York is the true monster to work with, a man who stares at a woman all the time annoying her so much, that the woman asked for him to get fired, is something serious, and speaks volumes of how bad person York was.

It's obvious that for some reason you want us to hate Dick York, but you're not going to find many here who agree with your assessment that he was a "monster" to work with. That's going too far, and you know it. Liz was not a saint, but that's beside the point: so what if they got to the point that she wanted him gone? That means either must have been a "monster" -- ? Way too strong. Ask yourself, if he was so horrible, how did Liz tolerate him for as many years as she did?

Actually, reading between the lines, I think York and Montgomery had an affair, and she tired of him as she tired of all men eventually. And eventually she turned on him.

What William Froug said it seems to be true, because Liz never talked baout York in interviews, if you search in the internet you'll find a lot of audio interviews of Liz, and you'll never hear her talking about York

Also, York said that he and Liz never talked again since he left Bewitched

So you should ask yourself, why did Liz stayed clear from York behind the scenes? why did she never talk about York in interviews? why did she never talk with him again after he left Bewitched while she kept in touch with Dick Sargent?

Liz treated a lot of people the way she treated Dick York. I guess Elizabeth Taylor was surrounded by monsters. Like Monliz apparently is.

I thought it was odd that either the interviewer or Frough said that he was there the last season Dick York was on the show, but Dick York left the show after season five. Frough only worked in the show on season three. Also, Dick York didn't start missing a significant amount of episodes until season five. Perhaps she was annoyed with him and wanted him off the show even in season three. What I find hard to believe is that he would be inappropriately staring at her, etc. when her husband, William Asher, produced and directed the show. He was there all of the time. Yet, where was he when all this was supposed to have been going on? I would love to hear what Agnes Moorehead would have to say about this. In spite of her coming from a fundamentalist Christian background and Dick York being more new age spiritually, they were very close.

Also, NO OFFENSE to Dick Sargent (by all accounts he was A VERY NICE MAN), but after Dick York left, the ratings went from 11 or 12 in season 5 to 25 in season 6 and out of the top 25 in seasons 7 & 8. Dick York was extremely missed and the onscreen chemistry he and EM had just wasn't there with Dick Sargent and EM.
In addition to York leaving, some of the ratings decline had to do with more and more scripts being rehashed from previous seasons, sillier plot lines, and the show getting older and stale. The last few seasons don't even resemble what the show looked like in the beginning.

P.S. Other than this story, I have always heard nothing but nice stories of Dick York and what a wonderful humanitarian he was, tirelessly helping the homeless.

So... Elizabeth was very angry about the way Dick York...stared at her between scenes, made her allegedly feel uncomfortable....Elizabeth couldn't stand it to the point of wanting him gone and who cares about what it means for the show, & everyone else not really caring how Elizabeth felt, including her own husband, as long as Dick York could say his lines and perform, he was not going anywhere.

It sounds like a lot of unhappiness for both the main actors, & everybody else being about the business of putting out a show and making money.
