A pretty good ranking there with one exception:
I'd put Fred Rutherford no higher than in the "average column". He's definitely a case of the 'Dunning Kruger Effect'. |

I agree about Fred, he's often portrayed as a dolt.
I also question Aunt Martha. Surely if she was all that smart then she would realize that she's only advertising her swollen ego with all the 'Bronson bloodline' nonsense. |

Here's mine. For people with no evidence from the show that they're above average, I moved them to average. I think Beaver is naive but of average intelligence.
I also think there's commentary in the show to make one think Wally is above average. And Eddie has to cheat on a history test. He's probably still average, but certainly not above. Oh, I also added staff from Grant Avenue School. Above average Wally Ward Judy Gus Mrs. Rayburn Miss Landers Miss Canfield Penny Average Fred Beaver Eddie June Uncle Billy Chester Richard Aunt Martha Mr Haskell Violet Gilbert Below Average Larry Tooey Way Below Average Whitey Lumpy Larry's mother Mrs. Murdock Unknown Angela Valentine |

Sigh, I have this feeling that poor June will stay in the average category for everyone's opinion.

Well, when Beaver was trying to write the Mother's Day essay, June told him they had to fire her from a job due to getting her receipts all mixed up. I don't remember any mention of something that would indicate above-average IQ.
When it came to solving problems in the family, she almost always deferred to Ward. However one time when she DID solve a problem, she did a brilliant job (maneuvering Wally into accepting a more-suitable suit). Maybe based on that she should be above average! Just thought of another one: everyone except her hem-hawed around about Wally's haircomb, even the school principal. She finally just told him to fix his hair, which was the most sensible thing to do. Common sense should be part of IQ--maybe she should be above average and the OP was right (which would probably lower Beaver again). What do you think? |

Fred was a tough call for me. He's a knucklehead. But is he a blithering idiot? Holds apparently a high paying job working with Ward. Supports his family. Lives in a nice house. Travels all over the world on vacations. Is well spoken and articulate.

I'm not buying Whitey being lower than Richard or Gilbert.

Of all of Beaver's friends, Whitey got the best grades of any of them.

In S2 EP29 "Beaver's Hero" Beaver asks his mom what kind of student she was? June says "average"
Whitey is asked to spell whom. He spells it h-o-m-e. Sub teacher Mr Willet says there is a "W" in the word. Whitey's final attempt is h-o-m-e-w. |

"Beaver's IQ" S4 E9. The end of Beaver being a dope? Beaver now has a high IQ? Isn't the whole show based on him being not too bright? Mrs Rayburn says top 10 in class. Not top 10%. There's only 10 students in the class. He could be 10th out of 10.

Can Beaver have a high IQ and still be naive with no common sense, and not work up to his potential in school?
For one thing it contradicts S1 Ep 14 Part Time Genius. For another thing they shouldn't have gone back to the well and redone that episode. |
