Default Question for Fans of both All in the Family and Maude

When comparing both shows on the LOL level, which shows made you laugh more? Now of course Archie was a legend and he was good enough to create laughs on his own which made up for the lack of funny characters like Mike and Gloria. But when it comes to Maude, all the characters had ways of making you laugh

Maude with her God will get you for that and her irritation toward Arthur and Vivian

Walter with his MAUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arthur and Vivian with his Goofiness

Mrs Drunkentuck had her moments when challenging Maude

Of course Florida the maid.

So it was just so more funny characters to me on Maude which now makes me like this show more than AITF. Plus Bea Arthur never had a contract dispute that caused her to miss episodes and was on the entire series unlike Archie. I only watched the first season years ago when it came out on DVD and now as I am watching each episode, I am enjoying this show halfway through season 4. I would take Maude over All in the Family any day of the week. Anyone else???

Me! I love Maude. It's a sitcom I watch over and over and not get sick of. The cast has amazing chemistry together. I never found any of the characters overly written to annoy you like you have with All in The Family. I don't find Gloria bad like you do, but Mike is the worst. I can't get past his arrogance and treatment of Archie. I was so happy when Edith told Mike off in the episode Games Bunker's Play. Actually, everyone was telling Mike off on how he really is and that was nice for a change. Everyone always wants to gang up on Archie ignoring Mike who is worst.

When I first bought the box set of Maude years ago during its release, I was still a new viewer to the show. I had only seen episodes here and there but never all of them all the way through. It's one of my best blind buys. I'm still getting my way through All in The Family, but it's going to take some time. Watching Mike act like he's better than everyone else isn't that entertaining.

I will be done with season 4 tonight and then on to season 5. I had no idea this show was so good because years ago only the 1st season was on DVD and the digital TV era didnt start yet. And even when it did Maude would air on Antenna TV at 8am in the morning and never in primetime. So that was the main reason I bought the DVD so I could watch it from start to finish. Plus the last season of AITF with stephanie is not all that great. Maude never lost their main characters through the show's run.

The first time I saw Maude was when N@N aired it very briefly back in the day. I didn't watch enough of it to form an opinion. When season 1 came out from Sony, I bought it and enjoyed Bea's acting in the show. I found some episodes on YouTube of the later seasons and watched a few. They were funny. Once Shout announced they were releasing the complete series with unaired episodes, I had to buy it. Did you see the season 3 version of the swingers episode? I like that one a lot better than the retooled version in season 5. The only cast change Maude had was the maids throughout the run. They never affected the show. As long as Maude, Walter, Arthur, and Vivian were there, the show was golden.

What you don't understand is that Mike Stivic is actually Norman Lear preaching his liberal politics with the attitude that he can't possibly be wrong.

So you’re trying to say Carol was “easy on the eyes”? LOL. But I personally enjoy AITF way more than Maude and prefer in to Maude but I must admit Maude made me laugh more. Maude was kind of dry IMO, I don’t know but there was something dry about it, but still it was very funny and witty and hilarious at times and the more characters were likeable. I could also relate to Maude more than Archie politically.
