Old thread, but it's one of my favorite themes ever. I suppose if you think the singing is bad I can understand why you would hate it, especially the part before "it sure isn't you."

Its like a parody of "Hello Dolly" and "Mame" with a sad twist at the end, I thought it was intentionally bad to make you laugh at her pomposity.

I agree, the season 2 theme to "Rhoda" is absolutely unbearable. Probably why it was changed to instrumental in the third season.

I loved it! In the end a seagull was supposed to grab Phyllis’ hat when she threw it into the air, but they changed it, sadly.

Exactly. The theme song was farce.

It’s FARCE! I love the them! It’s NOT meant to be taken seriously. It’s actually a cut down the Phyllis character. Lol!

Phyllis clearly gives a look showing she's indignant, so it's clear it's a put-down. Maybe a unique approach (up to that time in TV history).
