So I'm now at the episode "Instant Family" where the kids are staying at the farm, Ralph tries to help cook but says she's can't really cook at all... but in a previous episode, Ralph is an expert cook and Oilver wants her around because she can cook

I think anyone could have cooked better than Lisa Douglas including Arnold Ziffel (and even Eb avoided her cuisine whenever possible so it wasn't all in Oliver's head). Hence, I think it's likely Oliver considered Ralph was a virtual Cordon Bleu grad compared to his wife of hotscakes infamy!

There's no in-universe explanation as far as I know. I guess the writers were, for the sake of the jokes, hoping everyone had forgotten the previous canon, despite the episodes only airing a few months apart.
The second episode in question (Instant Family) didn't even rely much on Ralph's comically absurd cooking. In my opinion they could have easily maintained that she was an exquisite chef as before. |
