So, there was talk of a spinoff as early as the second season, with Polly having a series option as early as the first. this goes against talks that Linda Lavin "forced" her off the show and such, doesn't it?

Yes it was actually the 1st season. I always thought it was during the 4th season until I read the book below

1. Polly Holiday was actually approached about having her own show during the 1st season of Alice

2. Since they gave her creative control, she came up with the idea of having the character return home to Texas to marry a local politician who would soon become governor and make her the first lady of Texas

3. CBS didnt like the idea of her moving back to Texas

4. During season 4 of Alice, a renewed interest in American TV shows featuring the American South had emerged since Dallas and Dukes of Hazzard became popular and that made the creation of Flo go into production

5. Polly was responsible for the show's production and worked closely with the writers, producer and directors to shape it

The ratings for season 2 is still unknown because for some reason they were not listed beyond 30 for the 1980-81 season

There are ratings for some second-season weeks (it was ranked near the bottom for some of those in 1981), though, true, that its final-season ranking is unknown.

Based on the TV Guide and people articles, perhaps too much has been made of the Linda/Polly "feud," at least in terms of Linda ousting her. Maybe Linda was upset that Polly was leaving? I also posted a similar sentiment in the Alice forum.

I cant believe For years on this site it was always said it was a feud that lead to the Flo spinoff and it turns out that was false
