When I watched it years ago I didnt know who I was watching only that it was a spinoff off MTM. My feelings probably wont change about the opening theme

I have been watching episodes on YouTube the last couple of days, since I am on vacation and bored.
I think it was interesting that they made Phyllis into a show because that character was to me sort of grating and was good in limited amounts on the MTM show, usually as an annoying or needy type character. On MTM she was good in doses but couldn’t imagine that they would think that this character could lead a whole sitcom. I think the ratings showed that also because it wasn’t a hit. I haven’t seen the show since I was a child but was vaguely familiar with the characters. The woman who played the elderly Mother Dexter, a one Judith Lowrey was absolutely hilarious. Lars’ mother and her husband Jonathan were also good. I didn’t like the guy who was Valarie Harper’s ex husband. He is one deminsional and plays the same loser character. Then Barbara Colby gets murdered. The Phyllis character to me never seemed to grow and not be the same grating person. Just my take. Plus an annoying theme song you couldn’t get out of your head. |

I'm certain I didn't see first-run episodes, but I definitely watched it many years later on cable. I liked it, it had sort of an edge to it that wouldn't have been consistent with how TMTMS was.
Cloris looked pretty good too, although she was at her hottest when she wore a uniform on Lassie and also looked good on The Untouchables. Yeah! GO FOR IT, Timmy! Hot woman alert!

I runny they made a mistake when they wrote out Julie. Granted, as a rule, I don’t care for recasts, but they had no choice in recasting Julie with Liz Torres. I loathed the Leo character and was glad when he was written out, but I wish Julie would have stayed. She was a great foil for Phyllis.
