Chit chat random vs chit chat

I saw some threads got moved from chit chat random to chit chat. What’s the distinction?

Some people are doing it wrong. Random Posts is not supposed to be a catch-all section where people post whatever they want. Any news or discussion threads should be posted in the main Chit Chat section or one of the sub-boards. Those other sections get more views.

Any games, music, movies, sports or politics (or anything controversial that turns political) should be posted in their own sections. We like to keep things organized.

Random threads are where people are just talking about different subjects.

The main Chit Chat section used to be much more busier and had a lot of active discussion type threads. It's now a lot of random type threads like what was the last tv show you watched or how is your weather. I guess those are the types of threads people enjoy posting in. I wish there were more news and discussion and less randomness and games, but maybe most members are fine with the way it is now.

Ya I just post on that base when Im not sure where to post it.... That one covers EVERY BASE in that section.. (Chit chat)

I don't think I'm ever gonna see the difference between chit chat and random chit chat . Maybe random should be eliminated? (I know. Tradition. It's probably been here since day one, right?). Or perhaps a name change for it? But no, I don't have a suggestion for a better name.

Chit Chat is for one subject. Random is for many different subjects.

It's more of a tradition and an archive of old threads. There used to be the Nighthawks on the Random board. I think of that board as a chat room.

There were the Smurftractors on the Happy Days board. Those teens are now in their 30s. They still come back and reunite on holidays like Easter and Thanksgiving for those "Partay" celebration threads. You guys have your own random thread on the One Day at a Time board.

I really don't know how I can make the purpose of the Random Posts board more clear. I made a sticky thread. People are still posting threads there that should go into other sections. Maybe they just like that color scheme better. People can use the Random Posts style on other boards that use the default blue color scheme.

I guess I could close the Random Posts board for new threads and just move anything from this year and 2020 over to Chit Chat.

I wasn't looking to shut it down, just trying to figure out the difference. The One Day At A Time example helps a little. If you get enough feedback you could reopen it, right? After all, Easter is coming up soon. Those guys are going to need a place to partay!

They weren't posting them on the Random Posts board anyway. They pick a different board every time. I don't think anybody will have a problem just posting in the main Chit Chat section. It really didn't get the same usage as it did in the past. It will save me some time from moving any threads over.

Aw I liked the Random forum It was like Chit Chat but off the beaten path.

But I'll agree that there have been a lot of threads in that place better suited for other boards. What you said here sums it up pretty well:

Essentially saying it's only for threads without a clearly defined purpose, like chat threads. You might have already included that in the old sticky post but if you want more rigid moderation on that policy I'd be willing to step in as mod on that board. That way I could take the job of moving inappropriate threads over and we can still preserve "tradition".

It was a good time to retire that board. It has served its purpose well over the years. It got a lot of use. If you look back in the archives, there are hundreds of 5000+ post replies. That was in the days before Facebook and Twitter. People didn't have many options back then for chatting. They would chat all night. Those days are long gone. Damn you social media.

I thought I was pretty clear what the purpose of the board was in the sticky thread. I also put it in the forum description. Changing the name really wouldn't have helped either. There were only 4-5 active threads this year. I was moving many more threads that really didn't fit there.

Hopefully robyrob can continue his long tradition of telling us what he's had for breakfast. Maybe it can be the start of some other new traditions on the main Chit Chat board.

It's not your fault. I've been considering it for months. It was time to put it out to pasture. It's better to condense things. Hopefully the main Chit Chat section can become more active.

Why dont you do a mass move and put everything on the main chit chat base and then delete those 2 bases @ the bottom,make things look neater

I can't mass move that many threads. It would probably crash the server. I can select move threads upon request. Many of those threads would never receive any new replies. It would be better to just create fresh topics.
