Default Are Too Many Digital Classic TV Channels hurting themselves?

I really miss old NICK at NITE & TVLAND.

Although I’m very thankful to have Me TV & Antenna TV.

However just having Me TV & Antenna TV as nice as it is I’m missing a lot of programs that are on Decades & Cozi TV and other digital stations because my area doesn’t carry it.

I know people like myself want to see other Classic Programming. They may love the digital stations BUT they may not be able to watch some of there Favorites that are currently on due to where they live.

I know Me TV & Antenna TV wants to add other Classic Programming Sitcoms but they may not be able to due to other digital stations having the full rights to those. Therefore making it tuffer for them to get programming rights and tuffer for audiences to locate there favorite programming.

I will say when NICK at NITE & TVLand were the places to go to catch Classic Television you were always able to catch your favorites knowing when they were on you can watch them with out missing them on Television.

No, because this way you get a wider variety of shows. Other wise it would mainly be just the most popular or best remembered classics and you'd get fewer shows like Alice, Benson and It's A Living.

What I do think is happening that with retro stations, many baby boomers are watching retro show and NOT watching any new shows. Other than few new games shows, I only watch maybe 2 new shows on the air.
I see B Positive which I thought was going to be a bit more drama but I am liking it. Then I watch which I believe was filmed 1-2 years ago for Diana Rigg just died is "All Creatures Great and Small on PBS. Other than that I tune into METV,Cozi and stream Tubi and Peacock for old shows.

Boomers were the first generation to grow up as a whole with TV being a significant part of their lives. So it should be little surprise that we are best suited to pick the gems worthy of watching!!

No. The more classic TV channels the better. The problem is when some channels are not available in your area. And that is the case with these channels. Some or even many people have access to some but not all of the channels. However I would be fine if they had even 10 or more classic TV channels as long as everyone of those channels was available to watch.

I agree NO! I never thought I would live again to see almost reproductions of the local channels I grew up with before being taken over by corporations.

Yes Im 58 grew up and remain in NY/NJ Metro......lived watching WNEW-TV Metromedia Channel 5 and WPIX-11 Alive.

As the posters above, even though I own over 500 classic DVD sets, and have my first VHS tapes from 1980, it is a pleasure to only watch the series I grew up with. For a awhile I was watching over the air, along with cable, then my over the air diginet antenna pooped out....so i rely with what Spectrum provides.....my only complaint is that they don't carry decades, yet do have FeTV.

I get MeTV, Antenna, Cozi, Buzzr, Get TV, and seldom watch regular TV anymore.

I just want to add, going a little off topic. However it would be a very smart idea for a classic TV movie channel to be introduced. A channel that exclusively shows 1970s TV movies for instance would do very well. I have mentioned this in the past but it would also be nice if MeTV or Antenna TV showed 1 or 2 classic TV movies each week. MeTV are adding more variety with their cartoons and so on, the next thing they should consider are classic TV movies.

I agree and left out that I get MOVIES! on NY/NJ Spectrum.....They do have a saturday morning retro type block of Hopalong Cassidy, Laurel & Hardy, Blondie 38 Movie Franchise, and then follow up with some corny movie like 50's "The Blob".......Yes I grew up with the local NY ABC "The 4:30 Movie" but was usally watched Channel 5 or 11. In LA it was the "The 3:30 Movie". BTW Movies calls their saturday morning "Popcorn Movies".

I have thought of writing MeTV or Antenna to pick up the Abbott & Costello library, but honestly can't figure out where they would air it.

When I again was a 70's kid WPIX at 11:30AM always ran a A&C film while Ch 5 ran "The Bowery Boys" at 12noon.

I have been watching MeTv's "Svengoolie" lately after The Three Stooges block, and feel that helps to fit the movie quoto as TCM also has many of the classic fun films as well.

Glad to see another Svengoolie watcher here on S.O.! I regularly watch it every Saturday night and record it regularly! Also, referring to the Abbott & Costello stuff, Decades currently airs The Abbott & Costello Show and MeTV has aired it in the past, and Svengoolie yearly airs at least one of the Abbott & Costello movies -- usually Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, but he has aired others like Hold That Ghost and The Time of Their Lives which I also found very entertaining.

He has been spotlighting Invisible Man movies this month, so go on Twitter and request Abbot and Costello Meets The Invisible Man be shown sometime soon in the future.

Great post and Happy Birthday btw......Yes I always knew of Sven but he is now part of my regular saturday night TV viewing........I grew up here in metro area with Zacherly, actually had him on a local show I produced in the 90's and he brought the actor who played "Dave" from "The Blob" with him.

We also had as other stations "Creature Features" WNEW-TV Channel 5 and of course "Chiller Theatre" WPIX-TV Channel 11.

I just bought the new "Sven Studio set" figure and a mug.....waiting for him to be shipped.

Here in Indy we had "Sammy Terry" on Friday nights. Back in the heyday of local television.

We had Fritz The Night Owl out of Columbus Ohio Channel 10 which pretty much covered most of the state. He was kind of a psychedelic horror host. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aypRuokufcQ

I would be happy getting some of them. I can switch between them and just pick out the shows I like. But out of all the ones that you have or want to get, I have exactly zero of them! The only Canadian channel that even remotely resembles the classic TV channels that you get in the US is CHCH TV which I love to talk about because I believe that it is better than Antenna, Me or Decades. But that's all we have. Some serious competition would certainly be welcome.
