Richie Iannucci of "The King of Queens"

Richie was one of Doug’s three best friends — and perhaps his oldest friend, having attended the same high school and shared an apartment before either of them were married.

But come Season 3, portrayer Larry Romano was offered a bigger role on another sitcom — NBC’s short-lived "Kristin" — and he took it. Richie vanished, and Doug was never called “Moose” again.

I liked Richie, they should have brought him back for some more episodes.

Shame we never saw him again. When Richie left, Doug just had Deacon, Danny, and Spence, and the Danny/Spence relationship was weird: they were more like a constantly-fighting married couple.

I know that Carrie had a younger half-sister in the early episodes. I don’t know if her absence was formally addressed on the show or not.

Nope- Carrie sister just disappeared. There may have been one mention of "Carrie's sister" a short time thereafter, though that was it.

Doug kind of mentions her in the episode "Roast Chicken" when he's trying to get out of roasting his boss. He tells him that he has to go to the wedding of his wife's half-sister.
