Esquire's Matt Miller, who hate-watched the canceled CBS sitcom out of concern for Erinn Hayes' departed character, pitched himself for the proposed AMC comedy that would tell the story from the point of view of the sitcom wife in an open letter to producers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. "I would like to first off applaud such a fantastic premise for a comedy and introduce myself," he writes. "My name is Matt Miller, an investigative journalist who followed the mysterious disappearance of Donna Gable on the hit show Kevin Can Wait, by which your new program is clearly inspired. For more than a year I meticulously reported on every development in the CBS sitcom up until its shocking cancellation after its second season...My extensive experience in half-hour sitcom research would prove invaluable for the development of your new program." |

Fired Kevin Can Wait star Erinn Hayes reacts to the proposed Kevin Can F*** Himself sitcom
Hayes, who was mysteriously fired after playing Kevin James' TV wife, tweeted "omg" with three laughing-crying emojis in response to AMC's plan to develop a Rashida Jones-produced sitcom spoof comedy about “a beauty paired with a less attractive, dismissive, caveman-like husband who gets to be a jerk because she’s a nag and he’s ‘funny.’" |

Seriously? Was anybody "shocked" that Kevin Can Wait was cancelled? No, they weren't.

AMC's Kevin Can F*** Himself needs to cast Erinn Hayes
AMC officially ordered the Kevin Can Wait spoof comedy that tells the sitcom wife's point of view on Monday. Now all AMC needs to do is cast Hayes, who was dropped as the sitcom wife on Kevin James' canceled CBS comedy Kevin Can Wait. "The news of the series order led to a swift reaction from those who saw how quickly Hayes got thrown in the trash by Kevin James: Surely a show about a sitcom wife inspired by Kevin Can Wait might possibly star … the former sitcom wife on Kevin Can Wait, right?" says Megh Wright. AMC orders Kevin Can F*** Himself and 61st Street to series Kevin Can F*** Himself is an apparent response to Kevin James' Kevin Can Wait, told from the sitcom wife's point of view. "It looks to break television convention and ask what the world looks like through her eyes," according to Deadline. "Alternating between single-camera realism and multi-camera comedy, the formats will inform one another as we imagine what happens when the sitcom wife escapes her confines, and is full of rage." Kevin Can F*** Himself was created by Valerie Armstrong with Rashida Jones and her producing partner Will McCormack serving as executive producers. 61st Street, from The Night Of's Peter Moffat, follows Moses Johnson, a promising, black high school athlete, who is swept up into the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system," per Deadline. "Taken by the police as a supposed gang member, he finds himself in the eye of the storm as police and prosecutors seek revenge for the death of an officer during a drug bust gone wrong. Timely and provocative, 61st Street is set against the systemic abuse happening in some of our country’s most vulnerable communities." |

Kevin James would be willing to be mocked on Kevin Can F*** Himself
"Absolutely. Why not?" James says of the dark comedy about a sitcom wife that was partly inspired his CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait. "It's hard getting shows on nowadays. And if you can do something creative and funny, you can't argue with it." AMC's Kevin Can F**k Himself trailer shows Annie Murphy shattering the perfect sitcom wife image The Schitt's Creek alum plays the meek wife Allison to a boisterous husband who begins to break out of the perfect housewife mold and pursue a life that doesn't revolve around her irksome spouse. "On our show, we follow (Allison) out of that sitcom world where there is no laugh track. Her dramatic life is full of grit and emotion that she's not afforded in that sitcom," creator Valerie Armstrong tells EW. "It's not a show within a show," Armstrong adds. "She's not an actor. It's just the way this world is presented. It's like a lens. It's a metaphor for the benefit of the doubt we've given men like Kevin forever. Men who get to like walk through life with a sitcom audience cheering them on all the time." Kevin Can F**k Himself premieres this summer. |
