Default The Finale

Can somebody please tell me what happened in the final episode?!? I've read several posts about how bad it was, but no details. I'm dying to know.

95. The Mork Report (5/27/82)

Mork bucks hard for a promotion from leader Orson on planet Ork, and unintentionally comes up with a report on how to stay happily married on Earth.

Mork bucks hard for a promotion from leader Orson on planet Ork, and unintentionally comes up with a wild new report on how to stay happily married on Earth. It all starts when Mork decides that the magic ingredients of a successful marriage are the right blend of honesty, respect, romance and compatibility. He buys Mindy a perfectly atrocious mini-outfit with wildly matching shoes, and when he sees her reaction to it, he begins to feel that he would prefer for her to lie and say she loves it. As for respect, while at the apartment with Mindy, Mork and Mearth descend from the attic dressed as huge budding Orkan plants to celebrate their planet's Sacred Foliage Festival. Mindy not only balks at going out to dinner with them dressed that way, but also laughs outright. Mork is pset that she is ridiculing his religion in front of her family. Orson doesn't buy it when Mork, in tux and apron, depicts romance in a passionate dance with Mindy as pots boil over in the kitchen. Mork's last chance backfires when he tries to sell his report on the basis of his and Mindy's perfect compatibility.

Indeed, it was a pretty bad finale. With such a great and funny show you'd think they could have come up with something better.

Cool

the mork report was technically the last show, but i think the 3 part gotta run episodes are considered the real ending. does anyone know if this is true?

now those were truley depressing - who would want to hurt a cute little alien? man

im just too tenderhearted for my own darn good <G>

i no longer have the ability to make vhs copies but id be willing to put those 3 eps to vcd for people to get a look at (as long as i dont have to edit the files for hours, then it will not take much time)

if anybody wants to "borrow" a vcd for a few days to watch and copy for themselves, promising in return to mail it to the next person who would like to watch it, then ill go ahead and do this sometime in the next week.

I don't know if it's true or not but I sure do consider the 3-parter to be the real ending. I mean, Mork going public about his origins is PERFECT, and the circumstances he was under that made him do so added more to it.

Cool

Yeah, but every time i watch Murphy Brown, I wanna kick Frank Fontanas @ss for being mean to poor Mork

I love the part where Mork changes into those time travel shoes and Kalnick sees theres a hole in his sock, and Mork goes, "Oh just kill me now, because I could die of embarrassment."

rotf every time at that one.

you know, a mork and mindy reunion movie is a good idea. Mork didnt get younger like he was sposta, but they could recast Merth
as ............ hmmm.

Who would be a good Mearth? I'm too old and square to know any hip young actors.

The last season should have been the 1980-1981 season. I hate the episodes with Jonathan Winters being gave birth by Mork and Mork and Mindy getting married. Way way over the Jump Over The Shark meter there. Unless they could have kept the original premise there, perhaps maybe Mork and Mindy would have gotten married but with a traditional wedding and if the show would have lasted long enough, they could have had a real baby not Jonathan Winters. In My Opinion!!!

I also love to see a reunion of Mork & Mindy, you wrote something about Mork not aging backwards, why doesn't he, have I missed something ?
With the filmtechnology today you could make Mork & Mindy & Mearth move to ORK.
I didn't either like the ending of Mork & Mindy with 3-episodes, what happened after ?
Did USA start to communicate with ORK ?
What happened to Mork, was he imprisoned and tested.
Something like that would probably have happened if it was for real.
'Til next time, Nan0 Nan0

The final 3 episodes are the finale. The last eppy tagged onto the end was out of order for some reason. If you watch the 3 finale episodes. it's pretty obvious they are wrapping up the show for good.

I never actually saw the "pretend" final eppy. I think I was so upset with the loss of my fave show at the time (along with Laverne and Shirley) that I never tuned back in after that.

You know I watched a hell of alot of TV in those days right up to the late 90's.

Now I watch A&E (love those crime buster shows) and Sci-Fi (Late bloomer Star Trek fan)

I always thought Kalnik trying to kill Mork & Mindy seemed out of character for the show. It was generally a lighthearted show -- so why all this negativity with the house being blown up and Mork & Mindy on the run in fear for their lives?

The fourth season seemed like a desperate attempt to breathe life into a dying show -- the misguided idea to marry Mork & Mindy and the even more misguided notion of having Mork give birth to a fully grown son who resembled an elderly man -- and nothing seemed to work in the end.

But the three part "Gotta Run" episodes were a set up for a season five which would have seen Mork & Mindy traveling through time and being part of a time warp episodes that would have seen the characters seeing various historical events.

But mercifully, the network cancelled it, ending a series that started off so well and devolved into a shell of itself by the end of season four.

The Gotta Run episodes were meant to set up a revamped season 5, which would have focused on Mork and Mindy skipping through time try to stay one step ahead of Kalnik, while meeting famous historical figures. It’s good that ABC didn’t pick it up, because this wouldn’t have worked on a weekly basis.

Yes, the Gotta Run episodes were the true end for season 4. After ABC decided to cancel the show, they chose to air The Mork Report last to “wrap up” the series (which really made no sense because there is no mention/resolution of the events of the prior 3 eps, it’s painfully obvious that it’s aired out of order ). It would have been nice if they would have been given the chance to do a special to resolve the Gotta Run episodes!

Something like this would never happen on a modern sitcom, because they're all serialized, like soap operas.
