CHCH January 2021

To usher in the New Year with a new group of retro shows, "The Prisoner" will be making a fast getaway from the CHCH daytime lineup to be replaced by "Bewitched" as it moves from 2:00 pm to the full noon hour to make up part of a strong morning group and leaving "Matlock" and "Hawaii-5-0" as the only dramas left on the schedule. Taking over from "Bewitched" at 2 will be a new pair of classic and popular series that were spinoffs of other sitcoms that were hits in the '70s. The new shows will be "Maude" at 2:00 and "Benson" at 2:30 and the changes will take effect next Thursday January 14, one week from today. Exactly 2 weeks later, "The Brady Bunch" will be leaving as well and I'll tell you what will replace them just before they go. I'll bet the next series won't be as great!

Since this is a New Year, this is also a good time to throw in a couple of predictions for what we might see the rest of the year. I figure that since "Green Acres" and "The Beverly Hillbillies" are already on, I can see "Petticoat Junction" joining them as well later in the year. When "Matlock" debuted last fall, I was disappointed that CHCH didn't show "The Andy Griffith Show" instead. That's another possibility I can see happening along with "Leave It To Beaver" and "All In The Family". I'll check back later in the year to see if I'm right or not. For now, here's what to look for this month on CHCH:

3:00 The Odd Couple

5:30 The Brady Bunch (final season) (replacement TBA - Thu Jan 28)

Leaving in February will be "The Flying Nun" and "Gilligan's Island". I'm feeling very sad already.

I've been very wrong about what CHCH will be airing. Who would have ever thought that "The Prisoner" would air on CHCH? Who has ever heard of "The Prisoner?" It's an interesting show.

"Maude" and "Benson" seem like good new additions, and it looks like CHCH is adding shows that haven't aired on the channel before, with the exception of "Bewitched."

Designing Women!

According to TVPassport.com, DW will start airing on CHCH on Thursday January 28, 2021 at 3pm! The Odd Couple moves to 5:30pm, as The Brady Bunch final episode airs on Wed Jan 27!

I was hoping a show like DW would air on CHCH.

You are right, Katie Ann. It will be "Designing Women". It's not something that I would have expected but then again "The Prisoner" seemed to come out of nowhere. I've never been a big fan of "Designing Woman" but I like where they're placing it, right after "Maude" and "Benson" , two of the more sophisticated sitcoms from the 70s and 80s. I also like "The Odd Couple" at 5:30 so that late afternoon block remains strong and solid for now until more changes can be made. This is what the new updated schedule looks like:

I have never guessed correctly for these replacement shows, but DW was one of the shows I hoped might air on CHCH. Actually I thought maybe they'd air The Golden Girls so we would get 70s Bea Arthur and 80s Bea Arthur.

I had just been searching for episodes of DW on YouTube a couple of weeks ago, with little luck, so it was really a surprise to see it on the schedule.

It's great to see CHCH adding "new" old shows to the schedule, instead of just bringing back Jeannie or I Love Lucy or Who's the Boss for another run.

I'm sure you can find and revisit many of your favorites here. The site itself is rather large so I've included a couple of shortcuts for you:
