Kitten I mean. They made her to googly and smiley sweet for too long. I want to watch more episodes, but I am not sure I can take her another moment. She reminds me of Cindy Brady. Gross.

Well, at least she doesn't have a lisp!
To me, the small Kathy isn't nearly as annoying as Cindy. If you haven't seen the later seasons, particularly 5 and 6, she's more tolerable after she shoots up. Cindy, not so much. |

I like Kathy ! I thought she was a sweet little girl!

Kathy is one of the better parts of this show. I don't like Betty either, Elinor Donahue was a lot more likeable on The Andy Griffith Show.

Oh, how true! Betty was at her WORST when the country cousin (played by Susan Oliver) from Gurney (Betty had a really snotty way of saying it) visited.
Also Bud and Betty fought as typical brothers and sisters do, but on balance I think she was worse with him. She routinely dissed his friends and treated him like dirt. Kathy (little girl Kathy) could be annoying at times, like when she traded something to her friend, for the friend's little sister. She continued to act pouty when they took the baby back, but finally after a long snit, she admitted to Jim she knew it was wrong. "If you knew it was wrong why did you continue to act out?" should have been the question. But most of the time I liked her, especially compared to Cindy (who couldn't even sneeze without drawing a visit from the doctor). Also, I think Lauren Chapin's acting was great. |

I have to see that episode when Kathy acquires a baby sister. I really liked Robert Young especially in The Enchanted Cottage. Later it was embarrassing to see Kathy wrestling with boys and jumping all over ‘Carolyn Schuster’ who stopped being her friend. Trying to put her in a dress and patent leathers to get a boy was just wiggy.

Yeah Kathy was too old to be wrestling with Earl. A real Earl would have other thoughts at his age!
As far as Peacock goes, I'm interested to know if they're running those same tired syndicated, edited episodes that ended up on the FKB season 1 Shout DVD set. Many, but not all are syndication length, around 22 minutes. Back in the early 2000s TV Land got complete episodes, and re-edited them. Those are the episodes that Shout should have used. |

I sincerely do not recall ever seeing an episode of FKB, prior to the 1990s.
It was culture shock for me in a way, because Marcus Welby M.D. was one of those shows my mother NEVER missed, so if I was going to watch TV at all in that timeslot, I was forced under duress to watch Marcus Welby......a show that ultimately I did not enjoy. So, everything I ever learned about Jim Anderson, was filtered through Marcus Welby. Same thing with the Elinor Donahue character, it was always "wow, there's Ellie Walker back when she was jailbait." I don't believe that I ever developed strong feelings one way or the other for any of the kids the way some of you appear to have. I guess that I just accepted them as a unit, a "challenge" for the parents to have to deal with. Each kid seemed to portray a believable role, in that respect, at least to my thinking. In a somewhat odd quirk, for decades I mistakenly believed that Jane Wyatt was Ronald Reagan's first wife. Her often aloof demeanor seemed perfectly matched to what I would imagine would be compatible with Reagan. Oh the mistaken beliefs that we carry, huh? |

Yes, that's easy to say now. But for years I didn't even care enough to look it up.
So, by the time reality finally came calling, it was a surprise. ![]() There is just something about Jane Wyatt that I find spontaneously condescending. Kitten's narcissism, otoh, never bothered me. I just figured "Oh, so that's where self-adoring princesses come from" |

One thing is that her accent is definitely not midwest U.S., which Springfield supposedly is (although this is another program where we don't know the state). Her accent sounds like eastern U.S.

So, I guess it would be fair to say that the mere employ of the accent would be blatantly pretentious. |

This post was about Kathy. I must say after watching many episodes in seasons 1 and 2 I really think Kitten is cute and funny. Bud is the funniest especially his scenes with Jim. I just find Kathy acts like a typical little girl of the 50’s who gets in her siblings’ way, makes trouble and often loses confidence in herself. I was born later than Kathy in ‘55 but remember playing the same made up games as Kathy and being hurt by snotty girls. Betty was just too snobby for me. Kathy had some great moments. As for realizing that she couldn’t keep that real baby as her own she explained she was very stubborn. That was a very young Carolyn Schuster as Kathy’s friend.
